Coolant question
« on: May 21, 2011, 01:41:03 PM »
Anyone know at what temp the engine will overheat? I found a puddle of coolant on my garage floor, refilled the resevior and started wondering.

I think it is up in the 240 range, where was the puddle, right side?

No, right in the middle. I could see where it was dripping under the front

The odd thing was that yesterday I could see it dripping in the front, I guess where the radiator (is that what it's called?) is behind the grill. But this morning, there was nothing on the garage floor.

Stupid ?
Are you sure it was coolant and not just water condensation dripping?

Yeah. It was red and the resevior was almost empty. What do you all think about the water pump? Bogie suggested it could be the cause?

Water pump is on the right behind the exhaust.  I believe it leaks toward the back.

Pump is under exhaust manifold behind timing chain.  Mine leaked to cross member, so appeared to be under center of engine bay.  FWIW, mine started leaking last April and has been intermittant since then- and a total of about 1 gallon replenished fluid since then!

I'm not saying that you should not replace pump, I just haven't yet....

if it's a n/a solstice I can't comment, but if it's a GXP/redline it's your waterpump and you need to get that fixed, and will cost you around 800-1200 to repair if ur out of warrentee!

I was just looking at my "Limited Warranty And Owner Assistance Information" book and on Page 5 Chapter 2 Engine: The water pump is listed as covered under the Power Train.
That is for the 08 Sol N/A.

Drop the car off at Winegardner Pontiac Buick GM in Brandywine. They wanted to do an oil change. $115 for a Mobile One oil change? WTF.

I have a problem with coolant temp
It is higher about 10 degrees F , about 210 when I stop thecar and wont get lower unless I raise rpm. Has anyone had any issues like this?

The problem continues, when I am in traffic, but not completely stopped, the temp is about 200F, when on highway 175F and when I stop the car the temperature climbs up to 210F
The fan is working right, so this seems to be a problem with the thermostat, right? Can there be anything else???

Those temps look pretty normal to me. As far as I know up to 220F (104C) you shouldn't worry at all.
