SnaponBOB remember someone had a similar problem with the tower brace and the wires.
I know it was partially his fault, none the less.
I know Dave made a comment on that thread about having a cut out in that area.
However it seems it needs maybe a little more clearance, for when you are driven as aggressive as you do during the autocross.

Not worried about the hood as there seems to be enough clearance. Even less worried about the hood mat!! The cross bar will be "clearanced" tomorrow. The wires will get some protection as well. A work in progress, to be sure.

Was not talking about the hood but the engine.
My statement was about the clearance between the bottom of the bar and the top of the engine.

Plenty of clearance to the valve cover. Just one electrical connector in conflict, but even THAT is due to ....  ummm ... exuberant driving !!!!

You may want to take some pictures of what you will do to the bar so others with similar  (ummm... exuberant driving) can make the changes to it.

Let me rephrase that. If I have to beat Streak like an anvil in a blacksmith's shop ...................... Streak can shriek !!!!! It's a TOASTER. Built to race. Things will go wrong - and then they will be fixed/upgraded as needed. Given what my (FAR more competent) co-driver has shown, this thing is SCCA Solo SSM competitive ............ MUCH to my surprise and pleasure.

Currently THE fastest Kappa in Solo. (Just, not with ME driving it. :banghead:) And that is with intermittent power loss problems on E85. WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!     :woohoo: :woohoo: And it is over weight.

And NOW, the cause !!!!! Apparently this has been an ongoing process that was sooner or later cause the short that occurred. There was no more than 1/8" clearance to the wires on the intake cam position sensor. [ Guests cannot view attachments ]

Paint had been rubber off of the cross bar as the picture will show. [ Guests cannot view attachments ]

And here is the damage to the wires.  [ Guests cannot view attachments ]

The OTHER (less important) contact situation was at the t-bolt i/c hose clamp just forward of the P/S reservoir. [ Guests cannot view attachments ]

A few minutes at the bench grinder and we have THIS !!! [ Guests cannot view attachments ] [ Guests cannot view attachments ]

Now, I have to see if I can locate a cam position sensor replacement plug to repair the wiring as there is not enough wire to work with.

Your GT6 floor pans don't look like they have the proper amount of rust for a British car you might need to fix that.

Call DDM and see if you can get a connector from Helio's car.

Call DDM and see if you can get a connector from Helio's car.

Already have the connector. GM P/N 19178093, ACDelco P/N PT2437, from an SCCA friendly Chevy store for $30. ALL over the internet for about $25-$30.

As for the GT6 floor pan, it IS worse than you saw.  :barf: :barf2:

Sob, it seems like the majority of the cases with P0010 and P0013 codes are related to a case like yours.
is it possible to alter this topic's title (please include P0010 or camshaft in the title) to make it easier for future search?

thx

[...] Looking under the hood I had seen that the brown/black wire on the intake CMP was showing signs of impact. On my car, there is no more than about 1/2" clearance to the DDM tower brace, and the scuffing was directly below the front edge of the cross piece. Well, both CMPs and the listed turbo sensors are all on fuse 41.

1) I will be attacking the cross piece to add some clearance. This was a prototype unit, so yours may be a bit different.
2) Spoke with Mike at DDM to share the experience as they deserve the feedback if someone has a prototype. I have NO complaint with their product - just the opposite. THEY are GREAT to US, so the least I could do was "give back".
3) BUY A TOWER BRACE. They work. I may be as hard on a Kappa as anyone (and I use hammers the way they are supposed to be used!!) so stuff will happen.
Yep, I was the one who had this happen to me before, but without ALL the codes you got (my fuse didn't blow, probably because it was a different wire that shorted).

Mine was a production bar with the cutout, but still shorted because of the way I routed the wires.  I liquid-tape'd the wire to reinsulate, re-routed them and also added some door edge guard to the brace as insurance.  The latter is probably recommended to ALL who have the tower brace.  Cheap, can't hurt!
