Toledo Tour - Northern States Championship Results
« on: July 07, 2011, 07:33:46 AM »
I thought some of you might like to hear about the results!
July 2&3 was the SCCA Toledo National Tour - Northern States Championship. The largest event so far this year with 354 competitors.

My co-driver and I competed in BSP.
After the first day I was leading the class by 0.367 ahead of Tim and .670 ahead of Corey Ridgick (came in 2nd at Nationals last year, should've had first IMO).
The second day I was able to add another 0.6 seconds to my lead. Tim had a hard time putting a good run together and fell to 3rd place.

Overall on PAX index I placed 5th and Tim 28th (out of 354).
Click Here forPDF Download of Index Results

On a different Index (the hot shoe SNAP rating) I took 1st overall and Tim 11th out of 354).
Click Here for Hot Shoe Factor results
You'll have to click on the SNAP RANK header to sort it.

Really happy with the results! I need to keep the momentum going upto and through Nationals!

ONE of the fast Kappas is doing well, and at this point, it's Alex's. Great stuff Doc. I can only WISH that my issues were as simple as the slave problem you had. Hopefully it will be sorted with the result being you and Andy duke it out at the expense of the Evo's.

It turned out to be the hydraulic clutch line abraided (spelling!) and started to leak.
Luckily in Street Prepared we can use any clutch line.
The quick, easy, and long lasting fix was to cut the crimps holding the rubber hose on the hardlines at each end and replace it with a stainless braided line using 0.125" compression fittings to attach it to the hard lines.
Total cost ~$20 and fixed while I waited (besides pulling the trans... I did that myself)
If anybody needs to go this route add about 4" of extra length the the braided line. It'll help with routing the line.

Spoilers are allowed. Wings are not.
difference is air passes over AND under a wing to create a pressure differential on the surfaces of the wing.
A spoiler only has air pass over it (more like into it). It works by creating a high pressure area INFRONT of the spoiler on the trunk lid.

Quick rules on Spoiler for SP is
No more than 10" from the body
Cannot be wider than the body
must fit within siloute of the vehicle when viewed from above.

more info can befound in the rule book.

Or there's finally been enough time put into tuning Kappas that we've managed to catch up. Have to think that with the Evo so many race teams used the car that it didn't take too long to figure out how to make it go fast. Only pro team to use a modified kappa for racing is the drift guys, and none of them are running setups that are even close to being stock.

Well, the only two most prepped LNF Kappas that are competing at a National level are Alex's and mine. HE is getting quicker and I have a fast co-driver. A great deal of the difference this year is a) better driving, b) prep levels, c) some mechanical issues that some Evos have had, and d) course designs. If the Nationals have courses that have equal parts of need for power and handling, Kappas could do REAL well.

http://www.vimeo.com/27514305

over a month later I've uploaded a video. This is 3rd run saturday. the camera battery died sunday :(

Also, don't learn from my shuffle steer. It's a bad habit I picked up from driving the GXP with a Sparco Evo seat. with that seat i couldn't fit my hand between my leg and the wheel. This caused me to start to shuffle steer.

Strange about the seats. When I put in my Kirkeys I ended up a few inches lower and further back so I have TONS of room now. I tilt my steering wheel all the way down when I drive.

Ok, so what then is the proper way to steer? I thought the idea was to avoid crossing your arms, so I started shuffling...then somebody else said "No, that's wrong."

There's room with the Kirkeys I have in there now.

For a season or two I had a Sparco Evo seat. I'm also just over 6'4".
