If that's what it takes for the Elise to have more storage space than we do, so be it.

I have never been bothered not having a motorized top. It is about as simple as it gets. More storage might be nice though!

I have put mine up in the rain, stopping at a light, getting out, putting it up, close the trunk, and roll up the window, back in the car ready to drive away before the light turns green.

Apart from the elise, we should also consider the roof removal duration of the new porsche boxter spyder. Our car's soft top is one of the most appropriate for that kind of a car....

I remember having to put the top up once while stopped at a RR crossing! And it was a short train...the only time I ever tried to be a train at a RR crossing and I won!

Locking down the passenger side flap is the only thing that makes it a little more challenging to do quickly.

the Boxster is FINALLY a 'legitimate' Porsche this year!!!!

I do wish there was a top-option for our cars like this where we could just roll up the top and not have to worry about wear and tear of the movable skeleton, reduce weight, and also free up some room in our trunk!  I'd assume this kind of top weighs about 20-30lbs lighter than our top.

Shockingly, my Lexus SC430 NEVER had a single thing go wrong with the motorized top in 5 years of ownership and over 80,000miles of driving her!

We have a top?  I haven't seen mine in a long long long long time... I assume it's still in the trunk but I'm not sure....

Ive been thinking of trying to put my top down while still in the car.   I have long enough arms where I think I can hit the trunk button, turn around and kneel on the seat reach out and flick the trunk up enough to get the roof down inside the trunk, reach over and close the trunk.

Edit: Just tried it and you can do it. Now I have something to do at a traffic light and see the look on the peoples faces.

So what you are saying is that you resemble someone from more on the left side of this photo than the right?

Lol, No, more to the right, but when I tried it, once you turn around in the seat, the corner of the trunk is right there. Didnt even have to stretch to get the top down. Im 6'2" so Im not short either. 8)

before i buy the car, on my check list for a car, among others it was a NON motorised top.
less problems and less weight. so what if it takes me a couple of seconds more to open or close it, compared to an electric roof top like SLK or Z4 or MX5 RC? the car pays me back  a whole lot more than these...plus i like the procedure of opening it and closing it ;)

OK, now that I am home and can see it. What a joke of a top. I can see tons of potential for damage, scratches, ruined rear window, and no end of issues, even comparred to our top.

I be you pay a mint for that half a$$ed looking top too.

Jim

PS I am referring to the Boxter.

^^^ ya you only roll up that rear plastic window so many time before it crack.

On the other hand, are top it take me only about 20 sec. to drop the top & 35sec. to put it up. No motorize top is that quick.

At the end of the work day. I popped the trunk, got in the car, start it & threw back to the top. When I got out of the car to close the trunk. A co-worker yelled to me, "That was to way easy"  I said, yap one of thing I like about this car is the ease & how quickly but the top up & down.

Mike
Here's to many rides with the top down, wind in your hair & the  hammer down.  :drag: :brnout: :drive:

Not only that, but I bet those two straps that go to the trunk lid will flap like a wind sock once they stretch out some. With that many pieces to take off = more possibilites of leaks down the road too.

I walked by a Porsche Boxter today and I laughed out loud. My wife asked me what I was laughing about. I said that the Solstice gets a bad rap for a difficult to use top but that car is WAY more difficult to handle than the the Solstice is.

Only take the car out when it's sunny, he said?
