Repaint color test
« on: July 09, 2011, 06:01:56 PM »
To all the Deep Blue color fans...

I'm drawn to anything blue and of course when I learned about the solstice, I waited to order a GXP in blue.  I did this without ever seeing a blue one other than the web site.

Needless to say I was only disappointed in the color when I took delivery of the car.  Ever since I had been wondering what to do about it.

Since the sky owner who bought two recked skys and painted it cobalt blue from the House of Kolors.  He had me thinking about repainting mine.   The price of the HoK paint was way too expensive.  I also had a cell phone case that was about the color I wanted it.  Several members have seen it.   Even BlackSunshine said that was the color he would repaint his car in the future...

So while I was on business travel in June,
I saw a new some cars with a blue pretty close to what I wanted.   I looked it up and found the color #

The first one on the list below I ordered as a pint, way to much to do it this way.  $$$
The ones after that I ordered spray shaker cans from Automotivetouchup.com

Honda Accord - 551P.   See pics below
Accura Blue was 553P  - too much purple and looked like a ford blue
2011 Dodge Ram Blue - better but too light
2010 Pontiac Solstice Kinetic Blue (still waiting for that one to come in)

Eventually there will be a complete repaint of my car with the color I settle on.

Are you shooting these yourself? If so, what paint gun, tip # and air pressure?

Joe it looks almost like the Chrysler Electric Blue or the Viper Blue . Both are sharp looking colors.

Will you paint the whole car like that? With that set up?

even though i am not a fan of blue (although my Manta is blue  :D), i must admit that the new color is far better (more aggresive) than the deep blue. the new color kinda looks like the perle blue of golf IV

All this time I thought your car was dark brown....  Kind of like Critter's being a lighter shade of brown.......

DBG, you always amaze me with your abilities... are you planning on doing the repainting or having a shop do it with your paint? Our cars are very conducive to repainting since almost every part is removable and can be done over time or allowed to cure properly in a controlled environment.

I have wanted to repaint Lindsey for a while. Too many rock chips and also wanting to make the stripes "permanent".  Always too many things to do and not enough time or money...

Good luck and I am sure this will be a great thread as it comes to fruition.

Joe

That looks very similar to the Blue on my Jeep which is called Intense Blue.
They have only produced the color in  3 1/2 year bursts for all jeeps.  It's a killer color that will really make the SOL light up.
Will still match excellent with all the Alcantra mods you have done too

That is pretty much my favorite color blue ever!

I've had about 8 cars I painted blue, and I always find that they are off just a bit.

This is the closest I have found to what I want:

Love the color!!  Much better than the stock, which is hard to tell its even blue.  Don't they have Corvette's in that color, or maybe its a bit lighter...

no, that was the spare fenders I had in the shed.  I won't be doing the repaint here as there is too much dust to deal with.

Ok, the Kenetic Blue paint that was on the Coupe at the plant came in today from Automotivetouchup dot com.  I sprayed 4 coats of blue and 3 clear, all using shaker cans.

Here is the results.  This is also next to the Honda blue that was previously shown.  I have to say I like it...

Both of those are slick!  No real bad choice.  Darker may go better with the interior, but both look great.

All is see is clover in the yard....

Also, exactly how many spare fenders do you have?

Last, I like the lighter one, but your interior will be the deciding factor...
