Both of our Kappa's are officially retired for the season, and and we'll be picking up a new 2012, Civic EX, white, 2-door, this week to replace our recently totaled 1996 Civic, 4 door.  Year end pricing helped seal the deal.  Required, obnoxious, fart-can exhaust to be ordered shortly ;)

I swapped an 06 Cobalt SS gauge cluster into my 06 Solstice. Possible first time swap? I havnt found any other info about it. Now if I could just get the DIC controls to work... :idk:

If stuff isn't working, the simplest fix would be to simply take it back out, pull the needles, and swap the face from the cobalt gauges to your old ones.  Possibly swap the needles too if they are different.  The only thing that might be different then are the face backlights (if the cobalt's aren't red too).  You can remove and resolder those too, but that's a bit more involved.

Many of us have BlackCatCustom gauge faces and he based the template off the cobalts.  If you DO do this, PM me and I'll send you the simple instructions for getting the needles re-registered at 'zero' again.

I'll clean the contacts on the controls and I will plug the original cluster back in to see if its an issue with the cluster (most likely)

Simply swapping faces wont work because then the speed will be incorrect. I would have to swap with a GXP cluster (iirc), Also the cobalt uses a clear bulb because the numbers light up white and the scale lights up red so all the coloring is within the gauge face. I may still go with a custom black cat face but I would want it to look largely stock like this one.

For the first time in over 2 weeks, I started up my Kappa and drove it to work.  Mainly because the G6 needed gas and I thought it would be in the 50's today.

It was a little too cold for the new tires this morning, so the handling was wonky at best.  But it was still nice to get the car out since I haven't spent much time in it for about a month!

Miss Red Eagle got suds today and she really looks great!  November in Kansas so far has been great, no snow yet and mild, perfect for top down driving, in fact the long range forcast for the next week is much of the same.  With the global warming possibly it may be a lighter winter this year, fine with me, just more time to drive the Eagle.

Didn't notice you mentioning why you wanted to do this upgrade.  Out of curiosity, why this particular gauge cluster?

Several reasons, no one else seems to have this cluster, its cheaper than custom faces, its easier than most alternatives. Its far from a flawless swap I'll admit but even with flaws I still like this cluster better than stock.

Yah, from what I've seen of pictures of just the clusters of cobalts and kappas, they are the same physically (even things you can't see like mounting tabs and what not), but differ in their gauge backings and needles.  I have no idea whether the DIC/electronics is similar or different though.

Left bulb burned out before the election  :gaah:. I think it was a symbolic omen  :slap:

Any way, replaced both with Sylvania Silver Star 3157 bulbs.

These are the brake and turn signal. Two hex screws is all it take to get to the bulbs.   :tool:

Yes Sir.
I am sticking with the little 4 banger.  It's a killer little engine that can have serious power pulled out of it.
Since I rev the heck out of my engine, I wanted to upgrade the top half of the engine and found out during the open house that DDM already had a super sweet Ported and Polished Head in their shop that was setup exactly how I wanted it.  Then I got to thinking, and figured at that point, I am about half way committed and decided to do the internals as well.
So Dave@DDM worked me up a quote with all sorts of hotness.

I was waiting to put the deposit down before I announced my plans
:D

I am going to stick with the 2871 as I really love it, especially with E47.  The head should allow us to pull some more power out and make Lusi even more devilishly fun.
