2012 Asheville Possible Day Trip
« on: August 12, 2011, 07:26:38 PM »
Just thought we would throw this out and see if there was any interest. We are looking to see if anyone would be interested in a Railroad and Rafting trip on the Great Smokey Mountain Railroad and Nantahala River. We are not sure at this time if we can get a group rate or not but we wanted to check the interest before we tried to get a group rate.

The standard rate is $99 per person. For this you get a ride on the Great Smokey Mountain Rail road leaving from Bryson City NC. and traveling by rail along the foothills of the Smokies and up the scenic Nantahala River Gorge to the top-of-the line. With no waiting, professional guides share the three-hour, eight-mile Nantahala River rafting trip. Breaking along the river for a gourmet lunch catered by 13 Moons Restaurant. Hot showers, photo show, all transfers included.

So lets hear what you all think. Again this is just one of the many ideas for other entertainment we are looking at including in the weeks activities and would like your honest input....

What class rapids?

Good Question.... :sorry:  I didn't even think to look for that or put that in. They are class 1 - 3. Thanks for asking that Critterman...

They had a class 4-4+ rapid several years ago. After a few people got killed in it they dynamited it  out. It is a nice float trip, not as good as the whitewayer rafting I have done in Montana and Idaho, But still a good trip worth the price.

Wife got GMSR tickets for our anniversary one year.

We camped at Deep Creek and hiked up to Juney Whank falls.
Got in some Fly Fishing in Deep Creek.

We finished up with a stay @

then went on the day trip on GSMR. I copped a Cab ride and got some VHS-C video but none of me driving.
Sad that the GSMR had to move out of Dillsboro to Bryson though.

This is a fun trip and would be good for a Friday event.
