Let's Talk F1
« on: August 01, 2011, 02:34:46 PM »
This is Critter's fault.  He got me hooked, and now i am an Addict.

This past weeks summary is as follows
It's Raining, It stopped raining, it looks like its going to rain, it's not going to rain, it does rain

Now try to be the guy in the pits who determines the best tire for the conditions and not loose your mind!!

Critter is an F1 fan? And now you are?

Jesus how did I not know. I've been begging for some fellow fans. I've been watching hardcore since 2009.

There was a race during mod meet, I wanted to watch but I didn't think anyone else was interested! Sheesh!

This weekend was the 3rd race i've watched.

Red Bull all of a sudden isn't so dominant.  McLaren has been awesome the last 2 races, but they need 1 driver to win consistently to make up points on Vettel.

Weber really needs to learn how to start a race.  He gets slaughtered every time.

We are a Jenson Button household, but I don't think anyone has a chance to beat Vettel this season. Red Bull already has the constructors in the bag.

2009 was very similar. Button won everything in the beginning, then others started to win, but they could never catch up.

He drove a perfect race.  Amazing to think he only pitted 3 times when everyone else pitted 5 or 6 times.

Seemed appropriate for him to win on that track as well.

That one turn had about half the cars run off.

So I just saw the news that BBC will be only covering half of next years races live, and Sky Sports will broadcast all of them.

I usually download the BBC feed of the race since no one "shares" the Speed TV versions, and they have commercials (boo) I hope the people who are so generous to share will pay up for Sky Sports (it's a premium channel) so I can get good english coverage of the races.

I will miss Martin and David Coulthard though. I love their commentary.

Did you hear the one guy say
Cricky!! <- however you spell it

I almost spit my coffee out.

They do give excellent commentary.  they were practically giggling like little girls over all the mayhem the rain was causing.

Just read that Martin will probably get an offer to go to Sky Sports. To me DC is replaceable. Having a recent driver in there is good for technical bits that I love.

I think Karun Chandhok should give up driving and become a commentator. He would commentate for a bunch of races last year with the BBC Radio guys who are on for the Free Practice sessions. He's like an F1 encyclopedia.

Now that he's reserve driver for Lotus he hasn't done it once.

I'm somewhat into F1. As in I want to follow it but I never get to see the races. Been thinking of a trip to see the British GP sometime, but if Texas gets a race like they're supposed to I might have to go there instead.

I've been an F1 and Ferrari fan since 1979 when Jody Scheckter won the world championship. I am stuck with Speed TV coverage. I miss the DC et all.

Here's the speed coverage .. http://stats.cbc.ca/racing/schedule.asp?series=FORM1 ..
CBC here in Canada use to have coverage of each race..though I've kinda lost interest lately..still hard to beat the  early eighties racing of Mansell Senna Proust..et al..that I was addicted to

Can't remember when I saw my first F1 race, but they were driving the soapbox derby shaped cars.  Went to my first Lemas race in 71 stayed in the infield meet the Greenfield Corvette team.

Other good races when they are broadcasts are the (pick on)British/European/German Touring car serries.  You will be suprised what they can do when they mix Chevy Cruises in with Mercedez, Ford Focus, BMW, Astra and any other small cars.

For pure craziness World Rally, or the European truck racing (semi trucks)

From what I've seen of the BTCC it's everything NASCAR should be and isn't. See NA$CAR? People can race real stock cars in a safe, entertaining manner.

I try to watch ALMS, but without cable/DVR all I can watch is the shit quality web stream and the races are like 3 months apart. The coverage sucks and the slow cars really get in the way of the fast ones causing problems. I also am not a big fan of street circuits for some reason.

Maybe I'll try to catch BTCC. Where can I watch it?

Cool I didn't know they had it.

I heard Speed 2 was supposed to have lots of non-NASCAR motorsports. If it was available to me, I might actually sign up for cable/fios just for it.

We already have plans Labor day weekend.  So Alas no.

The Austin F1 Race is at a crappy time next year.
It's right in between our Dragon Run and Kappa Nationals.
Don't think I'll be able to swing the money for that, so I'll be watching it on TV.

I'm going through withdrawal this week.  Can't believe there is another 2 weeks of no races.
THANKS FOR THE ADDICTION CRITTER!!!

Loved watching north American touring cars practise at Mid-Ohio in the late 90's.

Don't catch many of the F1 races anymore but do love watching lap split times on their website. :)
