Qualifying today was good, to bad about the stupid penalties, it hurts the driver more than the team.

Something occurred to me as I watched the race from last week.  Vettle moved up through the field like they were driving a different class of car. What's the chance he wrecked intentionally at the end of the race in an effort to hide something that would not have passed tech inspection? I don't know if team prancing horse is that shady, but it would be a pretty sneaky way to get a hell of a lot of points from the back of the pack.

The top teams are quite capable of moving up through the field like that.  They are just that much faster than the slower teams.  The back half of the teams are are almost 2seconds slower a lap than the top teams.

Track Record for Pole Position today.  That was an impressive lap.   I love how the one section of the track is just back and forth turns which are very smooth.

That one corner can take out anyone tomorrow, so it's going to be a good race with the possibility of some first lap antics with some fast cars starting from the back.

WOW, another Ferrari disaster.  Hamilton extends his lead and Bottas is only 13 points behind Vettel now.
Räikkönen drove an amazing race, to claim much needed points, but the top 4 were just too fast for him to break into that group.
There was some good wheel to wheel racing mid pack today as well.   Team Pink played nicely and finished next to each other with a solid performance and had one hell of a first 1/4 of the race.

Like the NBCSN commentators said, it's going to be a pretty bad day tomorrow at Maranello  Italy.
The Red Bull boys did good again today, and team Hass was in the points with both drivers.
Hope Austin does not get rain for the week like last year, looking forward to that event.

Bottas came real close to steeling third.

Ferrari is pretty much flushing this season down the crapper.  I don't think I will be buying one of their cars anytime soon.  You know assuming I could afford one.

Just got through watching both races.  Red Bull has been drinking some of their product and got wings :)  Ferrari is in trouble for sure.  Perhaps they are trying to tweek a little too much out of their engines.

Great race today, lots of excitement and controversy.  During the pre-race show they played the National Anthem.  Everyone in the stands, on the grid, everywhere were on their feet.  Not a knee to be seen anywhere.  Amazing when you consider there is only 1 American team, and a few team members mixed amoung the 20 teams.

Verstappen was a beast (think I've said this at least 20 times this year). Unfortunately the monitors cut out to Hamilton crossing the line the moment he got the penalty...wish I had seen it. Everyone went wild once it cut back to him though. Regardless he went 16th to 4th in 56 laps. I took my camera to qualifying and practice yesterday but left it in the room this morning (we had heavy storms and I didn't dry out until about 3pm). I'll post a few of those when I get back to home base. In the meantime, got this one on my phone while Stevie Wonder was playing. Such an epic weekend, till next year!!

Just finished watching the race.  Verstappen drove an amazing race.  I'm not sure that penalty was deserved as many others did the same thing, but he did gain advantage.  He likely still would have got him leaving two tires on the track.

Funny bit - former President Clinton getting slammed in to a wall while holding the trophy.  Funny stuff!

That was a great overall race with many solid passes and wheel to wheel battles.

As he said in the post race interview, everyone was doing it all weekend.  Including Bottas defending from Ricciardo in turn one.  He also said one of the stewards has it in for him.  Wouldn't mention his name but apparently all the announcers know who it is as they had no problem naming him.

This is at the very end of the race where the podium is decided. The kid will be as good or better than Hamilton and Vettel once he can get a car that is as good as the MB and Ferraris. The other guy that also prove to be very good was Carlos Zians (spelling), also Ocon on the Pink team.
Great race overall.

If it wasn't for the BS grid penalties Ver would have started in the top 10 possibly even top 5 and could have won this race.  If the Redbull was more reliable both he and Ric would have been standing on the podium a lot more often this year.

Verstappen had the new Renault engine and I think it proved it's speed.  I agree that was a B.S. penalty.  It occurred numerous times during the race from other drivers.    Either way, Watch out for Red Bull every remaining race.

The other thing I hated about this race was the Ferrari team orders.
Once again Kimi was the faster/better driver.

Ferrari needs to get used to being behind MB if they don't change their mindset and let the faster driver win.
Kimi's loud "FAAWWK" when they told him to turn down his engine map said it all.

Other than those items, there was some really great and exciting driving.
How about that for a Welcome to the team performance by Carlos Sainz.

Qualifying was CRAZY awesome.

OK, we all know I am not a fan of Perez, but....
He stepped up in a major way donating a crapload of his own money and raising over 2 million to help the earthquake victims.
That is such a great thing to see someone famous, successful and rich actually use all of those attributes to help out when needed.
His radio transmission at the beginning of Qualifying was pretty cool too.
Good for him.   I am super impressed.
