I love that track, I think this year, more than previous years, they really captured the elevation changes going up and down from turn 1.
At the moment, this track is owned by Hamilton.  Red Bull had a really good shot at splitting them, but MB really used that Virtual Safety car perfectly.

LV, another 10 second penalty was handed out this race, so they have been very consistent with that. This time, it was served in the pits because of when it was awarded in the race.

Some very good mid pack racing today and McLaren did extremely well again.  Really sounded like Alonso was having fun as well.

That track is amazing with the elevation changes and tight turns.

The race was pretty good, 56 laps just flew by.

It was a great race.  I think that track is the best one on the circuit.  A combination of the best of all the tracks combined.  Ham can win every race and if Ros comes in second he will still win the championship by 5 points.  Ham is going to need some help.   And yes Alonzo really enjoyed that race.  There was some great midpack racing.

It was a very good race, glad HAAS got to score 1 point or 10 place, which will translate in a lot of money.
Looking forward to Mexico and see what will happened there with the race between the MB boys.
I can not wait to see what the new cars with the wider tires and new chassis will bring next season.

Mexico is going to go insane with both Perez and Gutierrez.   I hope both of them have good races and finish.
Every time they go through that one section of the track, the crowd will cheer super loud.
I am referring to the section where the track literally goes under the stands

Should be a great weekend.  I like the track layout.  Wonder how much the altitude reduces their horsepower?

Gutierrez is going to need the car to perform to the best it will ever be or he will not place on the top 10.
Perez has been doing a great job, so I think if there is no mishaps he will be in the top 10.
The way the track comes right through (underneath) the stands is a great feature for this track, specially for the fans.

Do you think they are done deciding third place or is that likely to change again?

I don't know John there was some strange calls/non calls in the race.

Just checked F1 news and Riccardo is now in 3rd, Ves in 4th and Vettle in 5th.  Penalized 10 seconds for moving under braking.

I'm just curious how Ves got a 5 sec penalty but Vettle got a 10 sec, was that because Vettle made contact with Riccardo?  Or was it in part because of what Vettle said over the radio?

The FIA needs to start making these decision during the race in a timely manner not two hours after the race is over.  It's this kind of thing that causes people to think things are rigged or there is a conspiracy.

I don't think what he said over the radio helped, but what he did was exactly everyone had complained that Ves had been doing - double moves under braking.  They had a big meeting about the issue before Austin and said it would be dealt with seriously.

If the FIA gave Riciardo a 3rd place shame on them, because the Ves incident was a direct result in Riciardo getting into Vettles period.
This is the reason I have talked about the FIA and MB in the past.
We all saw what happened, the kid (Ves) trying to do his best to stay on 3rd place got in trouble and went completely off track period. At this point is all over for him. The correct move should have been to let Vettle and Riciardo duke out and for him to move behind his partner.

I do think they handled this really bad.

It should have immediately been stated that Vestappen gave Vettel the position.
That would have prevented the issue between Vettel and Riccardo from happening.

the end result should have been
Vettel 3rd
Riccardo 4th
Verstappen 5th

Wow, they :censor: ed this one up bad.

If FIA had told Ves to yield the spot like they should have the end result would have been an unknown.  There was still plenty of racing to be done at that point and it's anyones guess what might have been.

I hope under American ownership this kind of crap comes to an end.  There is no reason they couldn't have made the call before the end of the lap.

Ves did not have to give up that spot until race control told him to and they never did.  Both Lew and Ros did the same thing in the first lap and were not punished for it.  Vet did move 'twice' under braking which is what got him his penalty.  the moves were small but there closing down the track for Ric.   Were the calls good or consistent?  I don't think so, but I wasn't in the steward's meeting with all the data and film.  Vet's comments over the radio probably didn't help him.

All in all I thought it was a good race with a lot of action.

Yes, it was a good race and the 3rd place outcome should have been determine by either Vettle or Riciardo if the FIA would have done their job.
This was my original statement SA, let the other 2 drivers race for the 3rd spot.

I think Ves would have only been required to give up his possition to Vettel, Riccardo wasn't that close at that point.  It's not impossible that Ves couldn't have retaken third.

Is possible but since he went so wide and deep outside of the track, a 5 second penalty would have put Riciardo into 4th, and then maybe he could have retaken 4th by passing his teammate, but not 3rd.
Also the only reason Riciardo was able to catch up to Vettle was because Ves was blocking him.
I truly believe in the years to come Ves is going to be up there with the great drivers of F1, and this incident I hope, is a lesson on becoming even a better driver.

It's not a give up the position and take a 5 sec penalty its one or the other.  So at the time Ric wasn't close enough that Ves would have lost 2 positions.
