So I finally got to watch this race.

With regard to the Ham and Vet thing, Vet claimed Ham braked coming out of the turn and that's why he ran into him but if you see a replay the brake light on Ham's car never light up.  I think Vet just wasn't paying attention and rearended him.  Vet should have gotten a punch in the face not a slap on the wrist, 10 sec wasn't enough.

I don't understand why Kimi and Perez got penalties for working on their cars outside the fast lane, weren't they in the pits before the red flag?  Not that the penalties changed the results any.

Anyone catch Mclarens comments about Honda before the race?  Why change things now?   The commentator killed me with his response,  how about the last 2 and half years?  But they did finish the race this time and one was in the points.

Bottas had a hell of a race.

McLaren has been given a boost ahead of this weekend’s Austrian Grand Prix after Honda confirmed it would be bringing its updated ‘Spec 3’ Formula 1 power unit to the race following a successful test in Baku.

McLaren has struggled for form throughout the 2017 season, scoring its first points of the year at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix two weeks ago thanks to a race of attrition.

A lack of performance and reliability from the Honda power unit has been the root of McLaren’s struggles, causing the relationship between the two marques to near breaking point.

Honda had planned to debut its updated power unit last month in Canada, but could only complete an initial test in Baku with Fernando Alonso during Friday practice.

After a successful test, Honda confirmed on Monday that it would be giving both Alonso and teammate Stoffel Vandoorne the ‘Spec 3’ power unit for the Austria weekend, acting as a boost to McLaren’s chances.

“At the previous round in Azerbaijan, we were able to bank our first points of the year and I think it brought some brightness into our team,” Honda’s head of F1 Yusuke Hasegawa said.

“We also tested the updated PU, the Spec 3, with Fernando on Friday and we were able to confirm some progress in terms of the power output.

“We have proceeded with the mapping back at the factory utilizing the data we collected, and we are going to bring the Spec 3 for both drivers this weekend.

“I think we have some improvements in our competitiveness and I am looking forward to seeing our performance in Austria.”

McLaren racing director Eric Boullier is hopeful that the Spec 3 upgrade can help the team to keep up the momentum gained in recent weeks, starting at the Red Bull Ring on Sunday.

“After the excitement and incident of Azerbaijan, I hope that Austria will once again deliver a thrilling race for Formula 1,” Boullier said.

“The circuit itself seems to produce good, close racing, and its configuration should certainly suit our car better than the high speeds and long straights of both Montreal, Baku and the forthcoming race at Silverstone.

“In fact, we had one of our strongest showings in Austria last year, when Jenson was third in a rain-affected qualifying session, and went on to finish a very competitive sixth.

“There’s been no let-up in our development push all season, and, while the result in Azerbaijan was nothing to truly celebrate, it was a sign that we are working well and able to capitalize whenever an opportunity presents itself.

“With a number of improvements planned for the Austrian weekend, not least the proposed new Spec 3 power unit upgrade from Honda, I’m hopeful that we’ll be in a position to get amid the other midfield runners and take a useful step forwards.”

Way to aim low. 🤳
Let's try to be among the average !

I understand it would be an improvement, but this is Mclaren. Average is not good enough.

Nice

BTW, I was looking at Austin Packages.  Looks like it's not cheap, but it's also not crazy expensive.
The new owners have some really nice packages and you seem to get a lot of extra's no matter which one you choose.

I think the package Monica and I would choose would cost $5000 plus airfare

No, but only because they are scared it will break down.

You can go cheaper, but this isn't Nascar, so if the wife and I go, we are going to do it in style.

I thought maybe they would pay us that much money if we drove the Honda car.  Cause next year there's a good chance no one else will be driving one of those turds.

McLaren did OK, but what happened to the Spec3 engine?   It sounded like they were using the old one.
Both William's cars looked awful.
Haas seems to have some potential for tomorrow and MB and Ferrari looked like they normally do.

I was talking to someone today at a local C&C and apparently one of the engine engineers was let go at Ferrari.
I wonder if Honda will try to poach him to get some F1 Engine building experience.

Ham has a 5 spot grid penalty which puts him behind some interesting people.

Best quote of any F1 race I have seen.

Ok, watched the race.
Fun last few laps.  This seemed to be a heavy strategy race with a boring middle stretch.

The start of the races sure is fun, but I'm not sure the carnage is worth it.  I keep debating myself on it.  Hate to see so many cars leave the race 1 turn in.  Not just here, but many races.

Has everyone else seen it?

What can be done about fools in turn one?

Bottas is looking good, and seems to be having fun.

Botas entire attitude has changed, now that he is within 15 points of Ham.   Would love to be a fly on the wall in the MB garage.

I felt really bad for Alonso.  Due to no fault of his own or McLaren, he was out.
Grosjean and Haas did Awesome!! What an amazing finish for them.
Team Pink, solid race, solid finish, Kudos to both of them.  I will give credit where credit is due.

Ricardo is currently the best driver in F1.  I also love how he celebrates any podium as if he won the race.  Verstappen is young and has plenty of years ahead of him.  He is not at fault for having a bad luck season and he is handling it as well as anyone in that situation would.

Bottas quietly is kicking ass.  You could see his talent while at Williams, but I am not sure if anyone realized just how good he would be in a top car.   He might just steal the driver championship.

Anyone know what channel Silverstone will be on?  Right now my DVR isn't showing a race this weekend just practice and qualification.

I am growing o like Botas more. I love his demeanor and attitude. I believe he will listen to team orders if they are given even if he doesn't want to. That takes integrity and loyalty. Both qualities I hold well above pompous and arrogant, like his teammate

Team Pink finished close every race. Well matched cars and well matched drivers.
