Perez showed Red Bull they made the right decision.  Dead car, to starting in pit lane to 5th place.   He completely deserved driver of the day.    The top 10 places are all really close.  I hope the season keeps up like his although I would have preferred 1 and 2 to have been flipped.

And we have our first nickname for this season
MazaSPIN.

I won't talk more until others have watched.

Yes, it was a very good race. In my case I wish the principal at Aston Martin would have been a bit more forth coming on his comments, about the updated rules favoring the larger teams and not the smaller ones.
Let's see if Carlos made a mistake by going to Ferrari, because McLaren sure looks good. Haas season is going to be much like Williams in the past, hoping the rookies get better over time.
Alonso look good, I think next time maybe a bit different for him.

I think that was Mazaspin's  5th this weekend, with 3 of them in the barrier.

The changes made affected low rake cars  more than high rake cars.  There was a chart of instagram.  I will see if I can find it.

Yea it has something to do with the floorboards.  This was posted on a different forum

The altered floors that reduce downforce affected the teams running the low-rake chassis concept the most (Merc and Aston), and Mercedes being Mercedes, as the original low-rake chassis boss, has such tremendous resources that they substantially overcame the set up and ride height issues.

Aston Martin, on limited resources, can't adopt their car as fast because it was built on someone else's philosophy, and they succeeded in the one year when copying it was a more stable decision (last year) with almost no regulation changes.

So it may take them a little more time to get it dialed in

At least Bottas got fastest lap,  why do his pit stops always seem to hose his chances?

McLaren looks like they are going to be contenders this year.

Vettel ain't great.

Any bets on whether Mazaspin will finish a race this year?

Yes he is LV, points in his first race.  Alpha Turi is a team to watch this year.

SA - it is a good thing daddy has a lot of money, those cars are expensive.  Especially when you are fixing 2-3 a week :)

Is that how Megaspin got the ride to begin with?

Tsunoda was a pleasant surprise to see.  Schumacher didn't do so well.

Both new HAAS drivers were given rides based on sponsorship requirements.
The german sponsor wanted a German driver, and the fact that HAAS snagged Mick Schumacher to satisfy that request was a win win.
Mazaspin is a situation similar to Lance Stroll, he comes with the money.   I don't mind Lance.  He is a hard worker, is humble and had a pretty good season with some unfortunate hardware failures last year.   Mazaspin, I have no idea about.

Sadly, Gasly's race got away from him after a fantastic qualifying.   He was on the back foot after losing his front wing.  Alpha Tauri is a team to watch this year.  The car is quick and both drivers are fast.    Tsunoda looked great in his first F1 race.

Definitely some things to keep this season exciting.

Finally got a chance to watch.  Solid race!  Some great racing in the mid / back of the pack in the middle of the race and great racing at the end of the race by the front runners.  Botas got hosed in the pits, but is still severely outclassed by the other two.  Not sure anyone will regularly challenge them unless Perez's car gets sorted out.  I can see HAM/VET going toe to toe for P1/P2 and Perez/Bot going toe to toe for P3/P4 with McLaren trying to break on to the podium once in a while.

no pink cars this year.  I'm looking for a new team....  I'll go to the highest bidder.

Early on when I started watching F1 with you clowns (6 years ago or so?) I was not a big Hamilton fan.  He seemed disrespectful at times, or arrogant? not sure.  Just something.  But - I have grown to really appreciate him, and he has grown himself I'm sure.  What he does race after race it nothing short of extraordinary.  He is also more aware of himself.  I don't know if he drinks, but I'd love to have a beer with him and Ricardo.  Ricardo may not win a lot of races, but he seems like he would be a crapload of fun.

Anyway - Italy next?

I think you might have meant VER not VET?  VET seems like a solid 15 or lower contender at this point.

Green is the new pink.

I think as the team find there feet it should be a very interesting year with a lot closer racing.

Beta thingy is set.  Be aware the times have changed for practice and qualifying.  Friday an hour earlier and Saturday 30 minutes later.  All to do with Prince Phillip's death and funeral.

LV, get ready to screen capture and save my post.

Perez has made me a fan.  His season last year and now the start of this one are really showing what this guy can do with a fast car and team.  Man does he look great. I really hope him and Ver can box Hamilton out of the way into 3rd place on the first lap.  His confidence is also got to be at an all time high.

Checo, how's does P2 feel?
Quote from: Checo
Well to be honest, I should have been on Pole, I made a mistake on turn x. Tomorrow is what counts.

The top 10 looks real competitive again.   I was shocked that Sainz only got 11th and he was obviously disappointed.
Since they were deleting qualifying laps for exceeding track limits today, I wonder how aggressive they are going to enforce that during the race?

elff, I will, but to be a bit honest in years past he was a bit to aggressive, which made it seem like he was not that good of a driver, even though he was.
I hope like you Ver and Perez(Checo) do box Hamilton in but at the same time try not to get each other in trouble, thus letting Hamilton get away with the front.
I am still sticking with Vettel for the duration of the this 2021 season(team Aston Martin), but also rooting for Red Bull and McLaren.

Gotta love a rain race.

Nice Drive by Verstappen. I think this has officially put MB on notice. It's a shame Perez could not capitalize on Bottas crashing out to recover from his penalty. It just was not his day.  This was a difficult drive for a lot of the guys. Heck, Verstappen almost lost it on the rolling start.

Conspiracy Theory: Russel; did that on Purpose to allow Hamilton a chance to get back on the podium

McLaren and Ferrari both looked pretty good. Neither are on par with MB and RedBull yet, but there should continue to be some good battles down to 14th
