Ok folks Finially here it is the Itinerary for the weekend... It has taken a lot of time, work and cooperation from the weather but here it is... Motel infromation and the finalized route are in the first post.

Cruise Itinerary: Please do not forget your 2 way radios

Friday: Meet and Greet Dinner 7:00 pm until:

Choppers Restaurant and bar in the Motel. There is no hurry for anyone to arrive at any certain time for dinner. Food can be ordered when you arrive at the restaurant and we will be in the restaurant or if it is nice weather we will be out by the pool. Pleases let us know if you will be attending the Friday night Meet and Greet so we can give the Restaurant an approximation of how many to expect.

Also anyone who has a Garmin GPS unit that they will be using and would like to have the route loaded into their GPS unit, please give it to me at dinner. I will put a sticky note on it and put it in my room to be uploaded later during the evening and returned to you either that night or in the morning. This will save time during the morning and keep us on time.

Saturday:

8:30 am: Breakfast Buffett Gathering: (For those interested)
Choppers Restaurant and bar in the Motel. Or you can run up to a fast food place, we will have a list for you as to what is in the area. We will need a count of those that are interested in Breakfast so I can give the Restaurant a count.

9:30 am: Start gathering in parking lot of Motel for instructions. Both printed directions will be handed out at this time and any GPS units returned. Be prepared to start cruise at 10:00am

10:00 am: Cruise will begin. Depending on the number of cars we may need an additional Road Captain. We also need volunteers to be Sweeper. Road Captains and Sweepers will be required to use radios.

Lunch: There will be box lunches available for purchase made up by Choppers restaurant in the motel to carry for a picnic lunch along the cruise route. We will let you know what is available for the box lunch 2 weeks before hand. We will be stopping for lunch at a state park at the tip of Watauga Lake for our picnic lunch; there are picnic tables and restrooms. Also there are some short hiking trails if anyone wants to walk off their lunch. We will have hand outs for the trails on Friday in your packets. We will need a count of those interested in a box lunch so the Restaurant can come up with a menu and price for us.Watauga Lake

Aprox 2 pm: We will also make a stop at Mast General Store Mast General Store
Established in 1883, The Mast Store carries most everything you'd need for life in the past century and most of this one. On the National Register of Historic Places. This is a good break point, the store has drinks, light snacks and live country/bluegrass music.

7:00 pm: Dinner - Canyons of the Blue Ridge Canyons
Menu - Canyons Menu
Live View Cam - Canyons View Cam

After dinner Tiki Bar Party by the pool… There will be a D.J. or possibly a live band….

Sunday: For those staying.

7-9 am: Breakfast Buffett gathering, for those interested, at Choppers Restaurant and bar in the Motel. We will need a count of those that are interested in Breakfast so I can give the Restaurant a count.

9:30 am: Start gathering in parking lot of Motel for instructions.

10:00 am: There will be a run down the Blue Ridge Parkway with a visit to Mount Mitchell the Highest peak east of the Mississippi. This is a fairly simple run but we will pass out print instructions for this run for those that do not have GPS. There are a few hiking trail at Mount Mitchell and they are fairly short duration if anyone chooses to walk one. There is also a restaurant here that we can stay and eat at.

Mount Mitchell

Lunch: Restaurant at Mount Mitchell

On the way back, for those interested, I will lead a group of anyone that would like to go for a hike/walk at Linville Falls. This is considered a moderate hike/walk. There are 2 main trails to follow. Erwin's View Trail is by far the most popular. Its 1.6 miles round trip and moderate in difficulty. The trail begins at the visitor’s center, and then crosses the Linville River. The first viewing area is at 0.5 miles and offers a view of the small double falls above the main falls. Below this, the river narrows and snakes through a small gorge before plunging over the main drop.

Farther up the main trail at 0.7 miles is Chimney View - the 1st view of the main falls. There's also a great view of the Linville River and gorge below the falls.

The trail ends at Erwin's View Overlook. 0.8 miles from the visitors center. The view from this overlook is shown in the 1st photo on this page.

More info here. Linville Falls

5:00 pm  For those not interested in hiking Chilisky will lead a group to the Banner Elk Winery for a tour to begin at 5 pm. The winery is about 5 minutes from the motel. For those on the hike we should be back at the motel before the winery tour, around 4:20 pm for anyone who would like to attend this also. Banner Elk Winery

For those interested in heading out on their own after the cruise there are many other places to visit and things to see in the High Country. Listed below are just a few.
Grandfather Mountain
The Bolwing Rock
Tweetsie Railroad
Mystery Hill
Daniel Boone Gardens
Horn In The West Drama
Apple Orchard Altpass Orchard
Horseback riding for anyone interested Dutch Creek Trails
Here is a web site with more attractions and activities High Country Host

Information and directions will be available for anyone wanting to head out and do something different.

6:30 pm: Dinner - Choppers Restaurant

After dinner Tiki Bar Party by the pool… There will be a D.J. or possibly a live band….

We would like to add that if anyone just wants to lay by the pool on any given day and just join us for dinner that is fine as well. This is your weekend to come out and meet up with everyone and enjoy yourself. If anyone has other suggestions or something we might have missed please let us know and one of us will get right on it. We were also talking about making this an annual event, only to get bigger and better.

Monday:

Breakfast at the motel and departure.

Hmmm....

No Mods to do at this one JOE, just drive your car, enjoy the view and party by the pool. I will add that this is a 2 storey hotel and as far as I could see there is no roof access so you should be just fine!!!

The Comfort Inn Lenoir is close to the start and finish of the run and you only have to guarantee your reservation with your credit card. In other words, you don't have to prepay and you can cancel up until 4pm of your arrival date which is great.

 :cryin:
Please stay with us at the Best Western, you will not regret it  :woohoo:
I promise  :ghug:

The Comfort Inn in Lenoir is no longer close to the start of the run as the run will now begin and end at the Best Western in Banner Elk. This is just updated information so that everyone knows...

Okay... I booked a room for Friday and Saturday night.  I'll be departing Sunday evening though.

Now I'm just trying to decide, do I want to meet at the Dragon too?  I live about an hour from there...

Our room is booked for the 4th - 7th.  We'll be leaving Monday morning, and probably won't be arriving until very late Friday.  Count on us joining for the meals you have planned.  Sounds like a wonderful time, and if we have to cancel, I'll let you know!  :D

Ok High Country Attendees stealing a page for KYGXP we would like to know if anyone would be interested in doing a Zip line trip during the weekend... The zip line course is about 10 mile from the motel and is $65 per person. At the $65 rate you can ride the first 6 cables and SuperZip cable or ride 12 cables... If there is any interest I will call the folk a Hawksnest and see about a group rate.... So what do you all think...

I wish I could make this, but I am stuck in Texas and hoping to relocate to the Charlotte area by the end of this year.  Is this just a once a year event?

This is the only run we have planned for this year and this will be an annual event but we do have more ideas in the hopper for future events. There is also a possible 75th Anniversary Blue Ridge Parkway run in the works for next year. We may also look at a Yadkin Valley Vineyard run in the future. We are always looking for new ideas and cruises. But that’s what these will be, cruises not any type of aggressive runs. Thanks for the great question... Hope to see you at an event soon.
