I have 18x8.5 and you can 'legally' go with a 255x45 tire, altho I know someone with 275's on that rim.

888 would probably recommend a 9" but they are harder to come by.

Augie, I really love kelu's name! :)

18 x 8.5......i thought that's the stock specs?

just like Critterman assumed........18 x 9 all around (square set-up), I like, so you can go 275 legally and safely  :)

but some people also like staggered set-up   18 x 8 (or 8.5) front......and 18 x 9 rear

I went with 19's. I think it is a good compromise between stock 18's and too big 20's (my opinion). Not as large a selection as 18's or 20's and the tires do seem to run a bit more $$$.

Went with 18's and kept the stock rims as spare just in case. I didn't purchase new tires yet as I didn't need them so the 18" wheel worked out well.

I SO want to get new tires next spring.

I'm thinking 18 to 19, one inch why bother?  Originally I was set on going with a 20/22 set-up but asked someone who had 22s (all around) and they said the ride was harsh.  Which makes sense because I've also read that sidewalls work as part of the suspension.  The only way I'd go with 19s is if I could get 21s on the back.  Wasn't the concept car shown with a two inch spread to simulate the classic hot rod little tires on the front big tires on the back look?

I went with 19" Forgestar CF5's...8.5" width in front and 10" width in back.  I had to pull the rear fenders out a bit...50mm offset in front worked perfectly...30ish mm offset in rear was fine but needed a bit of fender pulling.  I have no rubbing or clearance issues.  I love the look much better than the 18's, plus it got m car off the ground about 1" more so I don't hit speed bumps anymore LOL.  I am running 255's on front and 275's in the rear.  They are lighter wheels so braking was not affected negatively....nothing that I can feel or see.  Also, both front and rear wheels clear the calipers without spacers...and I have the DDMWorks bigger calipers in front.  No issues at all.

I vote 18" and wider

If you increase the outer circumference you slow the car down.

That one inch made a big difference in the appearance. After lowering it the car takes on a much more aggressive stance (no more moon buggy). It also gives the option of going with larger calipers if so inclined. The 18's just don't fill out the wheel well enough for me but your mileage may vary! Conversely, for me anyway, 20's seem too large for the size of the car and don't seem quite right.

Whether you go with 18s or 19s the wheel wells won't get filled up more nor will the car sit at a different height. WIth a larger diameter rim only the ID of the tire changes, the OD stays the same if the tires are sized properly.

If you want to fil the wheel well, you need to drop the car with lowering springs.

If you change the OD of the tire, your speedometer will be off. Check it out in this calculator. I have put the 245/45-18 in vs. the 245/45-19.

http://www.willtheyfit.com/index.php?width=245&aspect=45&diameter=18&wheelwidth=8&offset=55&width2=245&aspect2=45&diameter2=19&wheelwidth2=8&offset2=55&Submit=Submit

Thanks for pointing that out. I guess I should have said the perception is that the wheel well is filled out better. Obviously a 19" wheel is larger than an 18" wheel but the profile of the tire will keep the OD the same. My car was lowered with springs and looks much more aggressive than the wife's still stock redline.
