Just as a data point (no 'Consumer Retorts' hate please) this was from this month's Consumer Reports.  Note this is a summary of their top recommendations from a larger sample of tires tested. 

Includes Ultra High Performance, both All-Season and Summer. Just FYI...

Not sure why they don't have the Star Specs in with the Super sports
they are not comparing apples to apples

Funny how in the noise category, which is what alot of people praise the SS for, they are the worst out of all the summer tires listed.

I pay attention to Tire Rack, who drives tires like I do, instead of Consumer Reports, who drives like my Mom.  Of course, so does 80% of America so I know I am the oddball.  (yes, I know I left a door open there....)
