between the cold and hot lines on the stick.  Closer to if not on the cold, it depends on just how cold it is.

Yah, it's pretty straight forward, so I don't know how much help you're going to get.  There's a lower line, and an upper one.  If cold, should be just above the cold line.  Just be careful to clean off the cap area before you remove it so as to not get sand/grit into the system.

If you need to top up, your typical ATF should do the trick.  I was getting whining at some point, as a line towards the cooler was not attached properly from factory, so I had a slight weeping leak from it.  When I noticed the whine, I checked the fluid level, and topped it up.  Whine went away.  Looked for the leak, found it, and then properly attached the line again (I had to move the spring clamp out of the way, press the hose onto the hard line more securely, and reposition the spring clamp again).  Since then it's been fine.  No more fluid loss, and I only get whine when I'm moving really slowly, and turning the wheel a lot and quickly, like in underground parking lots.

If you have low fluid levels, you must find the leak and address it.  Otherwise, you shouldn't have low power steering fluid.  And if you do need more, it's basically ATF.  Since I have an AMSOIL stock pile, I have now put AMSOIL ATF into my power steering system.
