Replacement convertible tops/ hardtops
« on: September 30, 2011, 07:30:33 AM »
I've been searching for a more cost effective way to replace our convertible tops. I have found one site, but it looks like you need to send the old top to get re-covered. Anyway, this is a thread to begin compiling any sites or vendors that could be of potential use in the future. The following place says they re-cover both the Sky and Solstice tops.

Here's a place in Charleston, SC that I may have to call/ drop by and find out if they can help us.

I've never used EZ On tops, however a lot of my friends in the classic European car market have, and they speak very highly of the product.

Here's a hardtop alternative to anyone that's interested. The whole thing flips up on the stock hinges.

Yes, I've seen those. The only good one is the Club Racer style. The Le Mans is Le Puke, IMO. BIG downside is you can't get into the trunk without removing the top. Dunno, why they haven't made a hardtop with cloth flaps that fold like stock so the trunk is still accessible.

He has said that if he could get 10 orders, he'd build them for $2000.

Bob, Do you live close to him? Have you been up close to it? I assume you remove the trunk lid and attach it to the hinges. Is it sealed good where it meets the body? It would definitely give more trunk room. Could he make the glass top removable, maybe like a t top? I would be interested in one.

No I don't Dick. He's about an hour and a half away. He claims that it seals well on the the factory weatherstrips.

Spoke with EZ On tops and their suppliers have discontinued support for our tops. Oh well. I called the place that is local here in Charleston as well. He said he will get back to me in a couple of hours. I think it'll end up being a dead end, too.

UPDATE: The place in Charleston just called back. YUP! Dead end! He said it's a factory top only.

Good Luck.

I just bought an 07 Sky with a ripped top on each side. As part of the deal, I agreed to buy the car only if the Top would be replaced. They ordered a new top from GM (somewhere?) and had an outside contractor install it. It took them 2 days. So... tops are available from GM parts people... but I have no idea on the cost.

I have three softtops but only one that hasn't been vandalized.  I think i'm going to keep it safe in my garage until it's a super-collector's item

I found a dealership in OH that has an EDAG hardtop for $500.00. Not my style but someone may like it here.

What we really need is someone build a hardtop that folds into the trunk. If others cars can build it, why not ours?

To be or not to be hard, that is the question. I prefer my top off and still hard when I need it.

That top was originally 3K (only three made?).  One owner wanting to sell because their first one had leaking/reinforcement issues, plus he had to pay S&H.  That helped soured him on the whole Edag experience.   So the question is the one in OH the original or a replacement?

Last two years I attended the MI show someone drives a black Solstice in and it never fails to draw a crowd.  Closest thing to a modern Nomad or Shooting Brake, but sounds more show than go.

Yeah we have no room for junk in our trunk but I think a hard top could fit and extend out...That sounds so wrong...

Here are the pic they sent me on the EDAG one. They did mention there was a leak issue.

THAT"S IT! There was this nagging sensation in the back of my head about what this reminded me of and you nailed it. Reminds me of one of those Dodge Magnum's.
