SPEC stage 2 clutch swap? What else needs changed
« on: October 26, 2011, 01:31:40 PM »
Ok, so if I'm gonna swap out the clutch, I've got a budget; unfortunately.   :slap: What other components, fluids etc do I need to change while I"m doing this? I'm looking at the SPEC stage 2 clutch.

Great question, I really need to start planning for this as well.  After reading SnapOnBob's write-up i'm not as stoked to be doing this solo....

Since you have been smoking the clutch, the flywheel needs to go as it can not be machined. If this car is just a driver, there is no need or benefit in a light flywheel. Some sharp Google searches can find one for reasonable money. Example is Source 1 http://stores.ebay.com/Source-One-Auto-Parts/Solstice-Sky-Opel-GT-Parts-/_i.html?_nkw=flywheel&submit=Search&_fsub=1563618016&_sid=297930046 . Do NOT short change yourself - do a new flywheel. If you have DDM do the work, discuss a new slave with Dave. BTW, a +2 is plenty for daily driving and some "fun".

Its over-kill for what I need to drive. I'm also on a budget and a short time frame....options are limited

its not about being overkill.

I recommended stage 3+  (even though it can handle more power than you'll ever need)................is because it is more driveable and streetable compared to stage 2 or 3.   Thats all.

but good luck!  :)

You also might want to look at the clutch combo Dr Love uses in his shop.  It is organic, stronger than stock, but without all the pressure at the clutch pedal.

Will be DDMWorks on Nov 5th.   I have to admit, even though the timing is horrible, I'm pretty excited.
You know that's 'Fireworks Night' right?  Is that the right time to be replacing a clutch?  Just sayin'...
