2009 Steering Wheel Control Question
« on: March 17, 2012, 03:08:25 PM »
Does anyone out there have a 2009 without the bluetooth option?  From the data I pulled before COMPNINE went away it looked like 3898 of the 4178 2009 Skies had the bluetooth hands-free (UPF RPO), and I'm not sure on the Solstice side.  Anyway, if anyone has a non-bluetooth 2009 can you confirm that your steering wheel radio controls still have the phone symbol?

Thanks

Was factory bluetooth an option on the '08 GT's?  I know it wasn't in the Skies until the '09 model year.  The only '09 steering wheels I've seen have the universal "Call Send" symbol on the audio mute/OnStar Call button, and the "Call End" symbol on the seek down button.

I just installed an OEM like bluetooth hands free in my car that functions with the steering wheel controls.  It came with little stickers that you could put on the appropriate buttons, but I'd like a more OEM look.  I'm going to order a set of the '09 radio control buttons and one of the parts websites has multiple options for '09 Steering Wheel Radio Control buttons.  I want to make sure that the ones I'm ordering have the phone symbols, or if they put different buttons in the 500 or so '09's without bluetooth.

I don't know if it helps you or not but my 07 Sol GXP without blue tooth does not have the phone symbols on the steering wheel like my 09 G6 that does have blue tooth.

Yea, I know the pre-bluetooth option year buttons don't, I'm just not sure if a bluetooth available year without bluetooth installed has the non-phone symbol buttons. Have you seen the steering wheel buttons on a non-bluetooth G6?

I probably have seen a non blue tooth G6 but don't recall, my G6 is the GXP so I believe that blue tooth was standard.  But since the steering wheels are the same between many of the GM cars and they already have a button panel for non blue tooth configuration chances are that they would have used that in the non blue tooth models.

You're adding blue tooth to your car right?  What does your car have?

It's the BEEBG-25 from Crux Interfacing.  Here's the thread about my install:  Click Here

It uses an external, wired mic, but everything else is hidden away.  I really like it so far, good call quality, mic is pretty responsive, and I've been on the phone with the top down up to 45-50 mph without noise complaints on the the other end.  The spare wiring harness I ordered should be coming on Wednesday, so I'll be trying to get the rear speakers working for streaming audio.

What about onstar? I know that on star equipped cars feature a built-in mic for the car phone...and those should in theory have the phone icon on the button as well.

The '08 and prior look like this:

The bluetooth buttons look like this:

I know this is entirely unnecessary, but I think it will complete the mod.

My 09 GXP does not have blue tooth, but the controls on my wheel are just like the one in the photo above. Those controls do work with the on-star. A few months after purchasing my GXP, a salesman told me that in 2009 blue tooth was an option that was genrally installed by the dealership. He indicated that it was not available on models, but if your vehicle had all the hardware in place, the buyer could opt for or against having it.
