To mod or to Overkill ?? this is the question...
« on: March 28, 2012, 06:45:28 AM »
i have a very good offer for vinyl car wrapping my GT.
vinyl will be kind of a sponsorship and i will only pay the guy who will wrap the car.
concept is to go with orange matt and details such as tulip, windshield frame, mirrors, probably hood as well, in satin black.

if i do it, even if i don't like the final result so much, i will have to keep it a year or 2...

question is, could this be an overkill or a fancy mod in your opinion?

here are some pics of matte orange cars and below is a sample on a random fender of the product i will be using (IF) (pics and pc settings do not show the colour 100% real)

thoughts pls?

no obligations from my side, apart from a short foto shoot of the car, that the company may use in any ads the company may publish.
i will pay for the work to be done.
so, no strings attached.

i just appreciate people's positive or negative comments about the color. some colors just look great on some cars, while others don't.

I like the orange (already having an orange car - heh!) but just not so sure about the matt finish.  I may be too old, but I don't like these matt finishes that currently seem to be in vogue.

However, the only one you have to convince is yourself.  If you like it, go for it (and bugger old fogies like me!)

matt finishes that currently seem to be in vogue.

In the car show scene, the matt/satin finishes was cool 2-3 years ago.   But last year, its no longer a fad with show car guys.

They're Back to being shiny again   :)

I still like the satin finishes though....

did i miss something?
why are you paying for the wrap?       who is the sponsor and what will the logo be?      what kind of upgrades did they pay for?
color matched windshield wipers is not a mod

the guy installing it is different than the company providing the vinyl. no logo on the car. they pay for no upgrades.
the deal is they give me the vinyl (product) for free, and my obligation is to allow my car to get photographed.
it's not the same as in the USA or Canada, where sponsorship is different.

question is, could this be an overkill or a fancy mod in your opinion?

Fancy or overkill I say if you like it go for it.  As far as the color orange goes I think it falls into the love it or hate it category (I like it, but would probably prefer shiney finish).  However, I just recently saw an flat dark grey M3 and have to admit it made the car stand out and enhanced the menacing aspect of it.

But you know what they say about opinions...

I prefer satin to matte (always been a staple of the hot rod scene) and by my tastes, orange/black or orange/chrome would look great on a GT.  I don't think it'd look as good on a Solstice though.

I think your black accents will work well with the orange as well.

How many billion euro do they want to install the material?

Um, am I the only one who read the part about having to keep it for a year or two even if you don't like it?  F that.  If you're giving up control over what you have to look at every day you should be getting monthly rent, not just free vinyl that you have to pay to have someone install.  I'd rather spend more to buy the vinyl and feel free to tear it off the next day.

As for the color combo, I think it could be nice but I would hesitate.  The few times I've seen it it has either looked pretty good or completely horrible- with no in between.  In any case, you're the only one who will have to like live with it whether you like the results or not.

1) How much is the material so you can evaluate the "free" part
2) Orange and especially flat is not so bad
3) For those who can't be fast they make it to look nice
4) How long you have to keep it on your car?

My opinion is with Reed....
If your really want this look, find out how much this flat orange vinyl cost, might be less then to install....

I think the only problem with that set up. They could Drag out a Photo Shoot for a Extended amount of time. Thats more power for them and you paid to have it Installed . I would think about the time Limit and see about getting something in writing for the time you Must keep it on .
