Hi

I've had an idea!
I will ask an NHTSA registered importer how to solve the problem!
Someone told me that US SPECS LLC would be the best choice.
Maybe that works! :cool:

I will get my results for the Greencard in May, so I will need a lot of crossed fingers! :D

Yesterday I've been pretty upset,  because someone has stolen the cover (front bumper)which is hidding the mounting of the towing sling. :mad:

Opel takes a fortune for it (40 $). :banghead:

Welcome to the forum Ironhide!  I believe with this post you are on the right track!  NHTSA should be able to provide good information for you!  You will get the crossed fingers and positive thoughts from all the good people who have posted on this thread.  Have you checked with Imagration officials yet?

I would buy a Saturn Sky Redline instead.  Too much trouble for something that's marketed in the US with the same specs anyway. The differences are merely cosmetic so it's likely cheaper to retrofit Opel GT parts on a US-spec Redline.

Welcome on board.

Ironside,
Wilkommen,
Where are you from in Germany? My wife is from Pirmasens and my family is from Nuerenbuerg. Your English is good, I speak fluent German but my writing, not so good. Hope all goes well with getting the stickers for import. I had issues bringing in an American spec VW in 89.

Opel GT might not have speed limiter that Sky's and Solstices have. Autobahns are mostly unlimited speed.  I was in Germany last year and cruised the Bahn at 200 kph.  I was in a VW station wagon, just a everyday normal vehicle.

Hi,

finally got my answer from US SPECS LLC. :D

"The cost to convert this vehicle to meet USDOT and USEPA standards is $3,200.00 plus parts, labor and all fees.

At this time we don't know what the total cost would be but it could exceed the value of the vehicle.  We have to make the car identical to the U.S. version.  I don't think we would have to change the bumper covers"

So I don't think there will much changes to do, because the GT and the Redline are mostly identical. :huh:

$3,200.00 plus parts, labor and all fees is not to much, because that would be 2.380 Euro here.

The worth of my GT is about 20.000 Euro (26.800 $).

@GXPinKC

I've had some conversations with the general consulate in Frankfurt (Germany) and they showed my several ways to get a Greencard.

In May it will get the results of the Diversity Lottery! :usa:

So I talked to someone I know that is in the autobody industry about what body shops do if the area of the car that those labels are installed gets damaged.  He said that by Federal they have to replace the labels and that they usually work with dealerships to get new labels.  So since you know what the GM part number is for the label (from the parts catalog that was linked to before) maybe you can talk with your local Opel dealer and see if they can't get you replacement labels.  If they can't help you post back here and maybe one of us can source them from a dealer here in the states.

My contact said he had another source that he has worked with but it cost more then going with a dealership, so that may still be an option if all else fails.

I will contact my Opel dealer on Tuesday, because here we have Easter Holidays. :D

In addition to that I've contacted GM, because I remembered that the aftersales manager helped me
with some problems I had with Opel (didn't repair my car properly). :poke:

I will post the answer as soon as I will receive it.

AHHHHH!

GM is driving me crazy! :banghead:

Over and over they are sending me that damned NHTSA link! :mad:
I know that link, it has been the reason for contacting that registered importer.

I just want to know the differences between the Saturn and the Opel.
They told me the Opel is only similar to the Saturn and that this is the reason for the missing labels. :nuts:

So please GM tell me which parts need to be replaced!!!! :slap:

Perhaps some one local (US) can order the labels to be mailed to you.

Have you found an online parts catalog for the Opel GT like the ones that others have linked to for the Sky/Solstice?  If so you could go through them and compair part numbers for items like the engine, trans, exhaust, and other emission system parts.

Have you contacted an Opel dealer to see if you can get the labels from them for your VIN?

Does anyone on the forum have access to do a VIN look up and see what information they could find for Ironhide's car?

Like Deep said maybe we can source the labels here in the states and send them to you along with some pictures of where then need to be installed on the car.

Ironhide ;

copy and paste this------>http://www.topspeed.com/cars/opel/2007-opel-gt-ar26033.html

I couldn't find anything different on the GT only the Badges and lighting. My GXP has everything the GT has .

They told me the Opel is only similar to the Saturn and that this is the reason for the missing labels.
 I don't think they know what they are talking about . The link above will prove that . ( Unless you have Right hand drive  and your  KM  speedo .)

Just De-mod you car and sell it. Honestly its going to be WAY easier to get one after you move compared to importing your car.

Plus with the exchange rates and values, I would imagine the opel will fetch more money in europe vs the US anyway. I would imagine that car will be absolutely un-sellable if it is imported.
