2013 Porsche Boxster S vs 2007 Pontiac Solstice GXP!
« on: August 14, 2012, 08:54:44 AM »
You think I'm crazy, maybe so but what a ride we have all had with our Kappa's and I and Carol with our 2007 Pontiac Solstice GXP!!!

Once upon a time way back in time we go and if your memory is as good or bad as mine you may recall that an upstart car was introduced, ah yes, the 2007 Pontiac Solstice GXP and some magazines, Motor Trend, Car & Driver and others decided to compare it to some others, those being the BMW Z4 3.0si and the Nissan 350Z Roadster.

I believe one of the articles was entitled "Reach for the Star's Is This The Summer of the Solstice"? by Kim Reynolds.  Well, the 2007 Pontiac Solstice GXP took 1st place in that review followed by the BMW Z4 3.0si and in third place the Nissan 350Z Roadster.

Well, today the Porsche Boxster S is revived again on page 120 of Car and Driver magazine and if I was rich enough to afford it, out the door... $85,410, zero to 60 MPH 4.4 seconds.  (sorry, typo, corrected) ***

Now, Carol and I have decided to take Miss Red Eagle back to the factory tune and you know what, I kind of like it there!  The Eagle has plenty of power and with the updates implanted by the dealer recently, they have made up for much of the Tune and the Eagle is indeed very lively and in fact all I can handle at my age.

All you youngsters out there with the faster reflexes, you are good to go!

Huh?

I think my car looks so much better than those other two. And I'm very happy with it's performance, yeah!  :drive:

I think most of the GXP's specifically those with a tune are 0-60 in under 5 seconds and a lot less than 85k

You could even do a V8 swap with lots of $$ leftover. Would have been nice if the kappa was still in production to see what it could have matured into...

Alot of our Turbo upgraded Kappa's can match that.
I do think the body redesign looks very nice, and a porshe is an excellent driving car.

I don't know if it means anything, but last night on my way home, I was on the highway doing about 110km/h in the middle of 3 lanes, and about 1-2 clear kms of road ahead except for one guy in the middle lane doing about 105km/h.  So I went into the passing lane, and slowly passed him as he accelerated up to about 110.

I noticed low HID headlights coming up quickly, but still a fair distance back.  As it got closer, I could tell it was a late 1st gen Z4 (looked like a 2008 non-M coupe, which I believe made 255hp and 220ft. lbs).  Anyways, suffice it to say, from about 110 up to about 160, my catless kappa with a tune crushed it.  He did perform a classic ricer fly by afterwards, which is when I finally heard his exhaust with the throttle down, definitely an I6 and non-turbo by the sound of the exhaust during the fly by.

I had a run with a newer 2010 335i coupe with the auto transmission my friend has, that is bone stock, from a roll, about 40km/h-130km/h, and besides between shifts, I was pulling away.

You probably could have taken the M series Z4.
Our cars are seriously under rated and unfortunately the  T3 Championships were years ago and still not publicized enough.   It's why I love reading about Werks setting track records in a fairly stock GXP coupe over cars that cost twice of what ours did.  Same with the Kappa's in the drift world.  I really miss Ryan's because he was still rocking a 4 Cylinder[Not the LNF but a 4 cylinder nonetheless]

I ran a Corvette last night while logging a new E47 tune.   Normally they don't get racy but this guy wanted to show off for his passenger.  He tried to lose me and couldn't.   He backfired twice and bounced off the rev limiter even. When we got to a place where it opened up to 2 lanes, I quickly moved to the other lane and pulled right up next to him.
He gave me a WTF  look and I smiled back practically breaking my ears off.

Still, I could let the wife rock a Boxter S.  It's a nice car and I would steal it for track days
 :D

:agree:I believe in 2008, my Sky Redline was rated faster O - 60  in 5.5, than the Boxster, Cayman, 350Z, BMW Z, Mustang GT & Audi TT.

At an old job, one of the higher ups had a BMW Z4 M coupe with the 333hp I6 engine but with an auto transmission.  He took me off the line, but by the time I planted it in 2nd gear, the race was pretty much over.  Again, I would walk on him comfortably except for in between shifts.

And with a simple software upgrade it wouldn't even be close!
