DDMworks Turbo 2.4L - Sneak Preview
« on: August 20, 2012, 10:56:36 PM »
Here is a little sneak preview of something we have been working on for the 2.4L

It will be priced very competitively with other turbo kits for the 2.4L

Our kit will be using a better intercooler/shrouding setup then anything else we have seen on the market

It uses a cast manifold for better reliability then a welded tubular manifold

The turbo is water cooled for longevity.

The fastest spool we have ever seen on a 2.4L

No modifications to the fuel lines are necessary, same as our supercharger kits.

Will be upgradable to various power levels with 2 options for turbos.

More information coming soon. :)

easily? not so much. It would be very neck and neck with a tuned 2.0L I bet.

Still a nice kit none the less :)

What turbo are you using for this app dave?

the "ancestor" of LNF used to make 150hp in NA form.
the 2.4 makes 175hp.
so my guess would be something like 20hp more than an LNF with a tune and bolt ons.

i am sure Dave will give us some dynos to see what hp it is making.

Arabas: don't think like that, u just can't slam a turbo on a na engine and boost it with 25psi as a LNF boost.

I am not sure if I am missing it, but I do not see an External BOV, but I believe I can see a BPV on the Turbo itself.
That should help narrow this down.  I like the MAF location on a nice long straight pipe just before the throttle body.  That should make for some smooth readings with zero turbulence.

Arabas, the 2.4 does not have a wideband that can be logged in HP tuners so it can be trickier to dial in the AFR.

I'm guessing a bazillion HP to the wheels, with a quadzillion foot pounds of torque.  You will have to run 22" wide tires for traction.

The end power is going to be determined by the Turbo so it is really hard to say one engine will be faster than another without knowing the specs on the turbo.

I am sure DDM has picked a turbo that will spool well for good DD capabilities while at the same time have a nice power range that will not jeopardize the internals of a stock engine.

Boosting a NA engine is not so easy, If you run the stock engine you are limited up to 15psi or use high octane fuel just because of high compression of a standard NA engine.

LE5 can benefit of its bigger capacity which might help spooling a decent sized turbo.

kelu, what makes you think he hasn't done something about the compression, a different head gasket for instance?

because dave runs OE gaskets on everything from a 600whp atom to a stock NA solstice.... and it is not going to make much of a difference by changing gaskets

We are running the stock gasket on that install, no need to change it for the power level we are shooting for with it. This kit is designed to be a nice entry level kit for people that want a boost in performance, but want a turbo instead of the supercharger kit. So it is designed around reliability and longevity, but with the 2 turbo options for the kit we should be able to offer a good performance range for customers.

43? No we are pushing 67 degrees advance with the stock compression ;)

Replied to your PM, FYI ;)

Sounds awesome! better have a good DLI/CDI or something to make sure that spark doesnt blow out @ the needed 87lbs of boost you are probably running through that thing

You know someone is going to read this post and try to run 87psi at 67 degrees of timing on a stock 2.4L and wonder why it blows up ;)

yes that is true.

Please note that Dave and I are joking here. You should limit yourself to only 23lbs and 36 degrees should be used on a Stock 2.4

(now someone may actually try that and curse us as tuners while they are picking up the rods off the ground)

if the LE5 gets lower compression to accept more boost than is comparable with the LNF ratio of 130hp/L so bye bye the advantage ;)

Miller: its a matter of referring point, you should see a friend's face when i put HPT in his hands to watch MAP sensor and he thought is boost, not absolute pressure. :))

I've wanted your shroud for a long time (since seeing it on carlintexas' car i believe).  Would you sell it separately?

I definitely need to update that, I'm still running a filter off the compressor housing :(

Are you talking about the intercooler shrouding and intake?

I'm guessing Dave is building 2.4 kits with all the left over K04 turbos left behind by the power mongers that have been upgrading to 2871, larger turbos and V8s. Reduce, reuse, recycle!

Ok ok, more likely they are new units, but if your on a budget.....

Make the right choices now
