I guess Dr. Jones' unorthodox spring rate setup where the rears are lower than the fronts seems like the way to go?  I also noticed he's running a front splitter this year along with his rear spoiler.  Are any other ASP Kappa guys running aero?

No offense meant with these comments... Alex, Bob, and I all know each other well, and I'm sure they know I'm not here trying to be offensive.

Bob's car finished 2nd in 2011 with an Evo School driver behind the wheel, in what I think was tougher competition last year than this year.  Alex's car is no doubt lighter than Bob's and mine (he's removed A/C, radio, etc.), and he added aero this year.  I will say that I think our cars are all *very* similar.  Until this year I was lacking 315's on the rubber, but fixed that mid season.

I believe that either of our Kappa's *could* take the championship, but I will concede that Alex's car is the "more setup" car of the bunch without a doubt.  As Alex said, it takes two good days, of which none of us have had in the past three years.  I was 2+ seconds behind Alex the first day and 0.8 second the second day.  Still don't know why I couldn't drive the car the first day, but was much more "on the pace" the second day.

I was hoping to get a good round robin day with Alex, Tim (his co-driver), me, and Steve (my co-driver) this year or even next spring with the four of us driving the two cars.  Our setups are similar, but Alex and Tim are better drivers than Steve and I.

I don't know if the aero helps or not, but as I still daily drive my car April - October I simply will not be doing that.  I also drive my car to the event (Michigan to Nebraska) towing my trailer... pretty much unheard of in Street Prepared.  I'd love to see a dyno of Alex's car... he does hit tune on HPTuners I believe, and Bob and I are both doing a 50/50 gas/E85 Trifecta tune.

I can not begin to imagine Alex's car on E.

I'm not sure his car would be much faster than it currently is actually even with the E47 (and our tune) we are running.  I was lucky enough this year to have Alex let me run my SoloStorm data acquisition setup at Peru on his last run the first day.  Looking over the data, his rate of acceleration and top speeds section to section are the same as mine.  That's part of what made me say our cars are "*very* similar".  The g-forces are a little different, just showing you how much more Alex 'drives' the car than I do... again, I have to say he is a better driver and the data shows it.

I believe there might be two people who have driven all three of our cars in an autocross situation, but only one (Andy) has any true seat time in all of ours (co-drove Bob's at last year, did a day or two Evo School in both Alex's and mine).  Last year, after driving mine, in his opinion the only difference was my lack of turn in.  Both of you had been running 315's and I was still running 295's on stock wide wheels.  Power wise he felt we were all similar, but that Alex's power was more driveable.  I think the biggest difference in the cars is Alex's tune (remember Bob and I are both using Trifecta's E47 tune), and combined with his better driving you see the results.

For curiosity's sake, did you see any steady-state lateral G improvement from going to 11" wheels and 315's over the 295's, or was it mostly improvements in transitions from having a better match between wheel/tire size?

Also, if you don't mind sharing, what acceleration figures do you get in 2nd gear?  I'm usually between .37-.42 G's forward acceleration at WOT on 245 Hankook RS-3's and 1.1 lateral steady state, spiking to 1.2 (on an asphalt autox course).

It's hard to quantify now, as I upgraded my phone last night to 4.1.1 (JellyBean) and apparently because Petrel stores files in a non standard way... I seem to have lost every bit of data from the entire season.  Oh crap!

I'll say this though, I gained more confidence in the 315s over the 295s because I didn't roll over the sidewalls anymore.  There were instances where I could feel the sidewall flex, and actually have a few videos showing it on the 295's.  On the 315's I never have that issue, but that's because I was squeezing 295s on stock size wheels (the SSRs), and the 315s have been on 11" wide wheels.  I'd say it's more a matter of correct tire/wheel combo than any.  I'm not convinced that 10" wheels with 295s would be any worse that 11" with 315s.

I have a video from Peru, IN this year showing a peak of 0.83 G's forward acceleration in 2nd gear (~3k - 4.5k RPM).  I ran data in Alex's car at the same event, and he showed 0.70 G's in the same area of the course.  At Nationals this year my co-driver and I are in the 0.50 - 0.70 G's forward acceleration range when going to WOT.  Just depends on the RPM range we were at and the length of time we are at WOT.
