2012 SCCA National Championship Runoffs at Road America
« on: September 20, 2012, 11:59:30 AM »
Having run the entire entry list for all classes through a search, there are only 3 Solstices entered in the runoffs this year.

William Moore has his Solstice GXP entered in the T2 class,  Rob Huffmaster and Charles Tobel have Solstice GXPs entered into the STU class.

T2 class race is 9:30AM EDT, Sunday 9/23.  STU race is 10:30AM EDT, Sunday 9/23

Both races will be televised in the internet, www.speedcasttv.com.

For some reason, I'm not holding my breath for a Solstice victory this year . . .

EDIT: Corrected the times for the races - they are Central time, not Eastern time

T2 - Don Knowles has moved from his Solstice GXP into a Ford Mustang GT, still prepared by the Aquilantes of Phoenix Performance. Don is qualified 1st in T2 for tomorrow's race. The lonely Solstice GXP in the race, driven by Bill Moore, is qualified 7th on the grid. Bill's Solstice is sponsored and tuned by Dave Gilbert of Performance AutoWerks, who is also a sponsor of this forum. Dave tells me that Bill is having a very tough job trying to run with the 400 HP Mustangs (4 of them are ahead of Bill on the Grid).

Good luck Bill, a bunch of us will be cheering for you. T2 class race is 9:30AM CDT, Sunday 9/23. http://www.speedcasttv.com/scca/

STU - New to the Solstice GXP this year is Rob Huffmaster, who is qualified on the pole, with a track record, 2.7 seconds ahead of 2nd place. Also running a Solstice GXP is Charles Tobel, who is qualified 6th on the grid, 5.745 seconds behind Rob.

STU race is 10:30AM CDT, Sunday 9/23. http://www.speedcasttv.com/scca/

Tuned in. Why does everyone in America scroll the standings across the top. It's really hard to follow. F1 style is so much better.

Kenny, just keep the live timing open in another window.

Kelu, enjoy!  This track is only 40 minutes away from where I live, but you can see so much more when you watch it on the web!

OK, the next two races have Solstices!

I was about to say: I watched first race, all full of old Hondas, VW and old small british cars, where are the Kappas!!!

You solved it already, thanks.

T2 was about what I expected.  I think the Sol with Bill Moore started 10th and finished 9th.  This was a typical Don Knowles race, out fast, save the tires and brakes in the middle and then just go fast enough to stay ahead in the closing stage.

Now for STU and, maybe, a Solstice show!

Yeah i will watch the live timing, just annoying, if they stacked on the left side would be nice.

Is the STU class new? what mods to kappa are allowed there?

Kappa finished 9th, looked as a solo run. Congrats.

Dave you confused me, you said Bill Moore and it was Willian Moore and another guy with Bill name which didn't clear in my mind.  :slap:

Kenny,  I haven't paid much attention to STU in the past, as the Solstices weren't competitive.   Mike Pettiford drove his T2 Solstice in STU the past couple of years, to no avail.  Obviously there is some aero mods allowed, brakes and engine mods too, as they are quicker than the T2s.

Kelu,  sorry about that,  "Bill" is nickname for "William".

Huffmaster in the Solstice for the win in STU, running away from everyone else on the track, he won by more than 10 seconds, almost 11 seconds.

Yep, Charles Tobel in a Solstice in 5th.  If it's not too late in Romania, hang around for this afternoon's races. There should be a couple of awesome open-wheel races.  Formula 500 is 500cc engines in very lightweight chassis!

Do they have them stored so you can go back and watch them after the fact?

I managed to watch F1, but the rest of the day ended up being pretty busy.

Yes, it'll take a while, but they'll have each race available at the same link I posted in the first message.

Yeah I don't know the STU allowed mods. I was trying to find out but didn't have time to look it up. The replays are available on the same site. I'm watching Saturday's events now.

I am real curious to find out his list of mods.

His Sol was fast and looked like it handled better than the Miata's.

Spec Miata race is really really exciting!!!!

Love seeing the rookie mistake of turning WHEN the guy in front of you turns not WHERE. So then you turn in early and go off at the track exit!

It's very hard not to do.

I am real curious to find out his list of mods.

His Sol was fast and looked like it handled better than the Miata's.

The Sol has aero mods, with a splitter on the front and a tall wing at back.  Interesting that the front splitter is about 1" to 2" below the stock front lip.

Engine wise, the only thing I know for certain is that you can use a different turbo, but I don't know how big you can go.  I know this isn't a lot of help.   :idk:

While I was browsing through the GCR, I came across something that indicated that maximum displacement for a Solstice GXP was 2400cc.  :idk:
