Is it possible to use the Solstice brakes and the vette hubs?  For those of us that autocross you don't really need the heat capacity of the bigger brakes but a bigger selection of wide wheels would be nice.  Seems like it might open up more wheel choices since you don't have such a big caliper to get in the way, and you could eliminate the hub spacers if I'm understanding correctly

Yes, I believe that you would just need 3mm washers and to redrill the rotors on top of making the hubs fit.  I was going to do this just to show that it could be done but this project has had the car down already longer than I like.

My theory is to use Kappa hubs drilled with a 5x114.3mm PCD.  The logic behind it is due to the size of the hub flange, drilling a 5x120.65mm PCD will put the knurl of the stud very close to the outer edge.  There is a concern of basically not enough material.

So, back to 5x114.3mm PCD.  That's a total of 4.3 mm difference in PCD or 2.15 mm in radius.  Using a wheel stud with a smaller knurl diameter (i.e. Honda studs with 0.485 in knurl diameter) will put the flange available width closer to stock.  The thread size stays the same at 12x1.5mm.  Everything else also stays the same; there is no other change in dimension.  Parking brake will be retained and, with the same hubs, there is no change in wheel speed sensor.

My Wilwood Front Brake system is 11lbs lighter than stock per front side.
My front OZ Ultraleggura's are 11lbs lighter than the stock rims.
My Front tires are 4 lbs lighter than the stock goodyears
So I have shed 52 lbs of unsprung weight in the front of my car and 30lbs of rotating weight. 


My Rear Wilwood brakes are the same weight as stock, but larger with larger rotors. So Bigger but same weight.
My Rear wheels are 10lbs lighter than the stock rims and that is rotating weight. 
My Rear tires are 1 lb lighter [Which is amazing because they are 275s!!]
So I shed 22 lbs of unsprung weight in the rear and this is all rotating weight

And last and very important,  the tires match the above weight savings with better traction. 

I consider the upgrade worth ever penny and my car brakes better than it did with the stock components[Tires included in this statement] and now, I have a system that can maintain this level of braking under repeated usage.



I love this thread.   starkmaster03 has some serious DIY skills and it's been fun watching.  It makes the petrol head in me very happy


Elff you forgot the 100 lbs of phonebooks required to see over the steering wheel.  But since you are only 4' nothing and wheigh 70 lbs that is a wash with the average person.

About two months from start to driving.  Still not quite finished.  I have the new ZR1 wheels on order  as of today.

Prius?  Hell No.  Too many reason why not.

My back has been hating me for a few weeks now too.  I feel your pain.  Oddly, swinging a golf club helps to loosen me up.

Just a little update. The ZR1 wheels came in and I also picked up some Vette hub connections so I will be able to get the ABS/ TCS hooked back up.  I still need to get tires mounted and then I'll get some pictures up.

I mounted the new rims on the stock size tires for the meantime with it going into winter.  I figure I'll pick up some new tires in the spring.

Does anyone really know how the ABS systems work on these cars.  I picked up four of these rear Vette ABS/wheel speed sensor harnesses.  I have wired these in so that the Vette wheel bearings are now have the right connector instead of the Solstice connector but the ABS/TC/ESC are all still on.  I have hooked up the scanner and watched all the wheels as I've driven down the road and all the sensors are reading correctly and together but the lights are still on an not functioning.

Could it be that the reluctor rings on the 'vette hubs have more/less "teeth" than the ones on kappa hubs?  Therefore the EBTCM (or ECM) "sees" all four wheels traveling at a different speed than the vehicle speed sensor is detecting... 

Just a thought.  I could be way off the mark, here.

That's what I originally thought as well.  I didn't get out onto the highway but up to at least 50mph it seems that the wheels were reading about 2-3mph less than the speedo.  I thought the same thing but you don't have the same issue when changing tire sizes which would throw the readings off.  I was also wondering if the wheel speed sensors read low speed.  When driving around the parking lot they seemed not to read up to about 10mph which I thought was odd but once out on the road they are reading consistent.
