Topic: Steering Wheel R & R

I know this has been discussed before, but here it is again for your viewing pleasure.
My mother ordered a red and black leather steering wheel from the friendly folks at Source One. Then being the good son that I am...I spent some time last week installing it for her.

First thing I did was disconnect the neg cable...(just for safety sake  )

Step two was to remove the airbag by inserting a small screwdriver into the small holes located on either side of the back of the steering wheel assembly. This allows the ability to "push" a spring loaded wire that holds the air bag in place.

Step 3 was to remove the lock nut (13/16"). I then just gave the wheel a couple jerking pulls to disengage the steering wheel from the splines. I left the nut on a few threads to avoid the steering wheel and the laws of physics from allowing the steering wheel to hit me in the face.

Step 4 was to remove the wire connector (blue colored retaining tab).

Step 5 was to disconnect the airbag wires.

Step 6 with the wires disconnected you can now remove the steering wheel.

Step 7-Reverse process and put it all back together. It took my about 30 minutes, most of the time was spent messing with the retaining tabs on the wire connectors.

I tried to post this putting photos in line with the steps, but I kept getting a loading error. Photos to follow.

Notice the blue tabed connector. Remove the blue retaining tab then you can disconnect that wire connector. The yellow wires I found easier to disconnect directly from the airbag...see next.

Here we are looking again at the back side of the airbag. The two yellow retaining clips need to be removed, then you can disconnect the yellow wires from the airbag.

Thanks for posting that, I'm sure someone will find it very handy.

Although I know that larger file sizes are allowed when attaching photos, it often ends up in an error. I suspect that if you had resized the first two pictures as you had the others, you wouldn't have had an issue with the inline images.

Your 100% correct SlyBob, after resizing the photos I had no more issues. Now if only I can remember that next time I post.
