They shouldn't have to cut anything to inspect the cat, just unbolt things.

A previous bad experience is to blame for that. Different dealer though.

The dealer believes it is the honeycomb from the Cat. However, I don't have any way to get home so I've got to take the car home.

My thought is that there would be a CEL from this. Can anyone chime in?

When you stomp on it what kind of boost numbers are you getting?  If you have a restricted cat it's going to hurt boost.

The Western Tune has served me well for a number of years.  I have to chime in on technical expertise of this board... If its been done or thought of being done to a Kappa platform car, most likely you'll find about a dozen people who have already done it to their car !!! Good luck with your new car and have much fun as we all do !!!

Is it a manual or automatic?

I've seen 18 on mine, its a manual bone stock, usually I'm seeing about 16 give or take.  Northern Hellinois isn't much different than central Hellinois climate/elevation wise so yours might not be off.

If its a ticking noise you really need to make sure it's not the fuel pump that you are hearing, GM actually has a service bulletin because people were bringing their cars in complaining about the noise.

Its not the fuel pump, I looked into that and it sounds roughly the same as the one on my Mazdaspeed3.

also, Manual. I wouldn't drive an Automatic unless it was like a GTR or something.

Boost won't go up too much more on a stock car, the system has programming that limits torque and boost, that is why a tune is needed.  Street race is quite loud.  Not sure if you want your car to sound like an out board motor from a boat.  It's even louder with a high flow cat.  My son put resonators on his to tone it down.

If the dealer found your stock cat bad, he should have replaced it for free.

I have good news. The piece in the exhaust is nothing more than a nut. Got it out today. No more noise.
