Somebody needs to make rear lowering springs!!!
« on: July 13, 2013, 04:36:45 PM »
I think that you could make a killing off of a set of lowering springs for the rear of these cars.  Somewhere between 1/2-3/4", same spring rates as stock.  I like where the front of my car sits, but the back is just a tad too high.  I don't wanna do Z0K springs because they're stiffer and stiffer rear springs=crash into a tree, plus my car is on the verge of being uncomfortable on these garbage PA roads anyway.

Just a thought.

I live in PA and have ZOK springs.  They are far from too stiff and will not cause you to crash.
They lower the car the perfect amount

If the ZOK springs = crash then why did the GM suspension engineers make them specifically for the Autocross and Road Race cars?  :drive:

And the car with those springs won in 2007 and 2008 T2 SCCA.
I have them also and have no issues with them either.

What car do you have? If you have a redline/gxp, you can get a complete le5 zok and shocks drop in set on ebay for under $400. Thats where i got mine from. The spring rate on the le5 zok springs is the same as the stock redline/gxp springs only a little bit lower. The lnf zok springs are stiffer than the redline/gxp springs.

But like you and elff, I too drive on shitty pa roads and have no problems if i watch where im driving with the le5 zok springs. I think the srping rate of these ones is too soft though. I found that out when i scraped the air damn on a 15mph bank turn that i at took at 45mph that showed how much they compressed. I will eventually be upgrading to the lnf zoks or even some bc coilovers with custom springs.

But this is how my car sits with the zok springs. The lnf zok would be about the same height. Was only about 1/2" lower than stock.

The responses seem to be missing the fact that the OP wants to ONLY change the rear springs. Maybe why he said he was worried about a handling change with rear Z0Ks only.

There are reasons for the stance of the car.
Keep all 4 properly matched

Changing the stance will change the weight balance which will really change how the car handles.

I was kinda sorta joking about the crashing into a tree part, but ideally I don't want to put stiffer springs on the back of a RWD car and not change the fronts since I'm assuming that will induce oversteer much easier.  Though, I always assumed that the LE5 Z0K was the same as the LNF FE3, but now that I'm looking at part numbers apparently they are different.  Thanks, ophidia31, I may get a set of LE5 Z0K rear springs since they are the same rate as the FE3, but hopefully a little shorter.

You can disconnect your rear sway bar and add the rear Z0k springs if you are really paranoid about oversteer.  Please note even with the stiffer rear springs you will not notice any handling changes unless you are at the limit of the tires sliding the car around.  It's always funny when people make conclusions about understeer/oversteer balance by taking an on-ramp sort of quickly...

Yeah, the car is pretty neutral in 90% of driving conditions. The car has only gotten away from me once due to gravel/cinders on the road turning at a light during the winter time but the esc saved that one and only saw understeer a couple of times really pushing it through turns on the back road and had to back off.

Know anyone interested in an HKS suspension?  I'm switching over to an LFN or LFN ZOK suspension.  My wife doesn't enjoy the stiff ride.

whatever they call that POS with the turbo.  I need to soften my suspension as I don't autocross any more.  I am looking to replace it and sell what I have.

Seriously thou Critterman, in all the Kappas I've been in or driven, the LNFZoK is my favorite setup. Best combination of handling, comfort etc.
