Best 2.4L block?
« on: August 02, 2013, 08:48:00 PM »
I'm starting a 2.4L engine build and was curious if anyone knew what is the best year and model for the Generation 2 Ecotec 2.4L block?

I have a supplier that has all of them available and my mind is set on the 2.4L, so lets keep on the topic of the blocks.

What are the differences in design and build material or process. I know some are Port Injected and some Direct Injected, but the heads are all interchangeable with little or no modification. So just the block... which one is best and why?

I'm assuming the newer LUK, but I'm often wrong so tell me what you know!

Just get a traditional Le5. The le9 and lat are both the same as the le5 except designed to be used in hybrid apps or for e85. The others are direct injected versions which would be way more work in this build than I think you'd be bargaining for because you would have to change you entire engine management system.

I don't think there is much difference between the blocks, if the original engine is an LE5, stay with it.  DI vs Port injection, etc all has to do with the heads and intake tract, nothing to do with the block.

What build up are you planning? Forced induction?
