Enough interest for Gravana wheels reissue?
« on: October 02, 2013, 10:07:19 AM »
Ran across this Ebay  posting for one 19 x 9 1/2, 55 offset Gravana wheel :Saturn Sky Pontiac Solstice Gravana 19 x 9 5 Wheel Silver Brand New | eBay

So I sent the seller a message just to say how rare it to see Gravana wheels for sale anymore and he sent the following reply:

I would love to bring these wheels in again. With the factory's 800 wheel minimum, I would have to Pre-Sell at least 100 complete sets to justify the risk. Pre-sales are either a slam-dunk or tough. Sometimes, people commit early and then run out of patience and cancel, and the minimum is close, but never met. I ran pre-sales on wheels, hoods, body kits and other products that required large mold/inventory investments up front. I found a ton of people who said “Yes”, but many of those people would back-out when it came time to commit and pay.

Based on my recent experience with other aftermarket products, 3 months is the threshold. People are willing to pre-pay and wait 3 months to learn  whether or not the deal will happen. It takes @ 3-4 weeks to produce the wheels, and 3 weeks in transit. However, it could take 6 months to get 100 sets ordered, and the people who commit first will not want to wait 7-8 months overall for wheels.

I sell many parts for the Solstice and Sky through my Accesspeed website , but I do not see the type of following that would lead me to believe that I could pre-sell 100 sets of staggered wheels in 3 months.

Now you have me thinking about this market again…

BTW, even though it would be great to see these reissued (in both 18s & 19s) I'm not hopeful that there is interest for 100 sets. And even though I wished I could of found a set of 19s, I'm still satisfied w/the 18s which continue to receive comps.

Cross posted to Solstice and SKY forums.

100 sets? Dang, I can understand that but he would have to sell through Discount tire to make that happen. My last attempt (before I found a used set) was about 15 sets interested and Discount Tire interested but I could never get the company to commit. Then Monarch wheels went out of business. They were terrible to talk to (not to say this is the same person). I never could get a hold of the Gravana owner after they closed down. This wheel pops up on ebay for awhile now and if only I needed a spare. I have the 19's and was trying to get 18's but now I like my 19's.  They are great wheels.

To be or not to be hard, that is the question. I prefer my top off and still hard when I need it.

The Gravana's J2 (Monarch 410) staggered wheels were/are mesh wheels.  Believe the wheels were originally sold through a vendor called Gravanatuning.com.

I'm not confident a 100 sets can be sold either.  Also unclear if that's per size (100 sets for 18s and 100 sets for 19s?).  Main reason I like mesh wheels is they've been around since the 80s and modern version continue to be offered, plus the J2s look more expensive than they cost.  Just like Kappa's.

I love my Gravagnas and I get compliments on them all the time. (Except of course from my brother who curses me when he has to work on them)

But I agree, I'm not sure if you'd be able to get 100 people to commit.

I agree Shiney.  Just wished I had ordered 19s when they went on clearance.  Can't remember how much they were new.

The 18” Silver or Black Staggered J2 wheel set is only $699.99!!!

By the time I was ready to purchase they were gone :(.  I paid $1400 for my 18s, but that included tires that were in good shape.

I paid $650.00 for mine (used) $200.00 shipping and about $1100.00 for tires.
