I have always admired Jaguar's and the soon to be produced 2014 Jaguar F Type caught my attention. Our early build 2007 Pontiac Solstice GXP and later build Kappa's look just as cool and when modified or upgraded would compete in the arena with the 2014 Jaguar F-Type!!!
Have you ever driven a Jaguar, and if so how did it feel compared to our Kappa's? It is fun to sometimes dream about how we would do in a race or competition! When the 2014 Jaguar F Type comes out I will indeed go take a test drive as the dealer is just a short drive from our home.
I have my dream...and it's the best looking sports car I have ever owned...but if I ever get the chance to compete against
a 2014 Jaguar F-Type at the track I would...and that would be a hoot for sure...

I had the opportunity to be one of 5 people invited for the first time ever to the Motor Trend Best Driver's car competition this year. The event testing was held At Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. We were given full access to the track, testing editors and all of the amazing cars. During the day we got hot laps with Randy Pobst around the track in a brand new Mercedes SLS AMG Black. We also were allowed to choose any car in the test for a hot run around the skidpad lot. I chose the new Jaguar F-Type. The comparison to our Sols is not fair for this car. This is an amazingly well refined car with a supercharged V8 and gobs of power.
I drive a Cadillac CTS-V as a daily driver, and the Solstice is my teen daughter's daily driver and mine for Track days/Time trials and Autocross. In comparison - The Jag V8 has the acceleration of my V, and the nimble feel of the Solstice, with better comfort than either. The comparison between the Solstice and the Jag is Apples to Oranges. Based on the editor's experience with the V6 versions of the Jag, the V6 Supercharged is the best combo of power and handling. The V8 really has oversteer (Fun in corners, but not fast), and the V6 with less power has better neutral handling for some reason. #MTBDC

Lucky you , how did you get picked?
-
It better be at $92,000.00 for the V8 model. That is well over 3 times the price of a Solstice.
My question to you is your Daughter Solstice fully modified with the ZOK package, DDM Backbone and the Venom brace?
A set of High performance plus tires and the GMPP or DDM/Trifecta/WERKS tune.
I bet the Jag in his V8 or V6 form will not do better than 3-4 seconds faster on the track.
Better yet the new C7 Z51 Corvette with Magnetic suspension at $56k goes faster 0 to 60 at 3.8 seconds, 1/4 at 12 seconds flat and a trap speed of 119MPH, does the VIR in 2.51.78 and it has a 1.3G.
The Jag on any form does not come close to any of the numbers above.
Glad you had the experience with it and participated on the event.
-
In my experience with Jags, My solstice will be roadworthy far longer than any Jaguar, including this new F-Type... Even if the sol has an eight year lead to the scrap yard...

The Sol has Z0K shocks and rear sway, along with Nitto NT01's or Hoosier A6's depending on the Autocross or Track. We run SCCA events in B Stock, so no braces or tunes are allowed. On the street it runs the factory wheels and OEM Goodyear's until they wear out.
As for the C7 Z51, the numbers you are showing are from GM, and not independently tested yet. I do believe that the numbers shown will be verified, as the car is really well done. If you sit in the Jag and in the C7, even with the C7's upgraded interior, there is a huge difference in quality of materials and layout. For my dollars - the C7 Z51 is the much better bargain for performance and track time. However, for everyday driving - I will Take the F-Type supercharged V6 if I win the lottery.

Sweet, the new Jag is a great looking car.

2. Luxury
3. Performance
The C7 primarily concerned with:
1. Performance (ie performance over appearance)
2. Fit & finishes.
3. Luxury
Point being GM should of kept one Kappa, addressed it's short-comings, and moved it under the Buick near luxury monicker.
-
Thanks for the great pictures - I haven't run Laguna since before they put the new corner in (i.e. a long time ago!).
Agree - apples and oranges. No point comparing cars that different.

I am assuming your comment about the C7 interior is because you have seen it in person and have sat in one.
I have not seen the F type Jag yet in person, but have seen the C7 Vette and the 2LT or 3LT interior is very well done and the materials are excellent.
As far as the appearance that is on the eyes of the beholder. The Jag looks really good but the C7 Vette is also very nice.
Here is a link to all high res pictures of the C7.

LatinVenom, in your opinion would the C7 Vette take the 2014 Jaguar F-Type? It would be fun to take them both to the track and bring along a tuned Kappa and settle the deal! I mean that would be indeed a hoot for sure to see a tuned Kappa hang with them
but yes there is always hope and the little engine that thought it could just might swing the deal! It would be quite entertaining to witness that show!!!!!!! It might win free pop corn bags! :brnout: :woohoo:  :us2:

Why do post like this always turn into a comparison with the Vette? A nice car isn't always about price or speed.

Totally agree. I am a fan of the vette, but I also love the look of the new Jag. The Jag does many things better than the Vette. The vette does many things better than the jag. I don't know many people who would even be looking at the two cars for purchase. You're either going to be looking for a vette, or your going to be looking for the jag.
The OP (luv ya Ron!) was simply dreaming of a sister for his kappa, not asking for a diatribe on how good the vette is or how bad the Jag is.
At least no one is talking about how good a supra can be.
-
No GJ and Sol Asylum I was not trying to do as such.
We all seem to forget that this little machine of ours is a very good design, and also an extremely good driving experience for the $$$ expend.
The reason to bring up the NEW C7 is because is a whole new design, as oppose to the old cookie cutter of the past 30+ years.
It also shows that we here in the USA can produce cars that are as good or better and do so at a heck of a lot less money than the European models.
Get a clue from Kelu, when he talks about the automobile industry in Europe.
The Jag as I mentioned is very good design, but then like any Euro car the $$$'s go into the stratosphere, and no I will not waste my money on cars that are way over price and do not come close to performance vs money expend.
Now take a look at this numbers and Smile.

That's just the point. Lap times are not very important to most people. I'm not saying the Jag is worth the cake, I'm saying no one compares a Jag and a Vette when they are shopping for their personal use. You prove that point!
-
what course at VIR is this? And what clowns are driving the cars? The atom runs 2min 1.7 sec around full course, and atom SRA race cars do it in 2min 5sec with about 210-220 hp range.
-
if that's from car and driver a few years ago, they couldn't drive the atom.Atom test driver drove the same car 20 plus sec, quicker
-
The reason to bring up the NEW C7 is because is a whole new design, as oppose to the old cookie cutter of the past 30+ years.
Whether the Vette is a new design or not you're still trying to make this into a comparison between the Jag and the Vette based on speed and price, which isn't what this thread was started about.
Personally I have never been a Vette fan maybe it's because I don't care for their looks or maybe it's because I have had to deal with too many Vette owners that have an ego so big they need a U-Haul to move it from place to place because it won't fit in their car.
-
Hey now- my Pops had a Vette for a long time! He is anything but egotistical!
(I'm pretty sure I shattered any ego he had when I was born, that's how ugly I was, thankfully, I've grown in to my alien sized baby head)
But, he also caught all kinds of flak from Vette nuts because he modified his to his tastes.

Oh, wow, and did your Pops take you on a ride in it or were you to young? And modified too, oh my goodness gracious it must have been a hoot for sure, sounds like your Pops was a swinger and enjoyed driving on the edge...did he ever take a picture with you in the the Vette with him? If so please post!!! My goodness gracious great balls of fire that is just AWESOME!!!!!!!

The "biggest Vette show" the Bloomington Gold has practically been in my backyard since I can remember, seriously it's like 8 miles from my house this year. I have probably dealt with thousands of Vette owners over the years and while there are some Vette owners that are normal down to earth people a large majority are not pleasent people especially if they find out you don't think Vettes are the best thing ever.
-
Any car club/forum/owner will have the kind of people that think their car is the holly grail.
There are also those people that look at the car for what it is.
The new design of the new 2014 Corvette is in my opinion one of the best GM has done with the brand.
The whole car is new including the LT1 engine that is now DI and VVT just like the LNF.
I have seen it in person and waiting for it to hit the showroom floor and get a test drive.
You may want to go and take a look at it since it is in your backyard or not, but who knows, once you see it in person you may chance your opinion.
-
Im not a fan of the corvette either. They lost my interest in the early 70s when they lost their curves.
The Jag looks really nice, but unless things have seriously changed, its going to be a really expensive car that needs alot of repairs.
Personally
I love the Godzilla. Doesn't matter if its the best or not. Its up there with all the best. Has killer tech and I a geek, and is half the price.
-
I assume you are not referring to the monster? The somewhat freak of nature that used to roam and kill anything in it's path. If so this thread has taken a turn or is it a car?
-
It's the nickname for the Nissan GTR.
-
Elff the problem is you all are making reference to the old design and have not made any comments on the new one.
I have nothing against the Jag since the lines are similar of our Solstice.
My comments are more towards the price vs $$$ value.
My opinion and also Kelu, as he has mentioned in the past about the over price European cars vs true $$ value.
My Solstice performance, looks vs $$ spend are more in line with my perma grin every time I get behind the wheel.
Once the new C7 Corvette gets into dealer show rooms this fall, I will take one for a ride and judge for myself if it is worth the $$ vs my fun to drive.
It better be a lot better than the Solstice feeling or there will be no purchase.
PS:
I just read your comments on the Nissan and it just happen the new C7 is also very Geek and it beat the Nissan by 2 seconds at VIR.
Look at the specs on it and you may have a different opinion of the New C7.
-
My comments were completely based on the new
To paraphrase looks good but buyer beware.
Its still a Jag and id wait to make sure its not as unreliable as the rest of them
-
The Jag is worth more than the Vette. Why? Because its a Jag.
If it wasn't worth more, people wouldn't pay more. Always remember, things are worth what people will pay. Somebody is buying Jags. Somebody else is buying Vettes. Nobody is buying Kappas. What does that tell you about the value?
Clearly, Kappas are not worth producing but the Vette and the Jag are.
EOC.

due to every review being sure to also remind (or indicate) to everyone that it still wasn't in the same "class" as cars it was being reviewed against.
Because it wasn't.
Is it now? I don't know. Give me a few weeks. I'll have the answers. But, no matter what, it still won't be worth as much as the Jag. If it was- GM would sell it for that price.
Oh- and another thing - "value" is a really silly argument when talking about cars. 95% of the buyers of either of these cars would have got much better "value" had they bought a 10 yr old Hyundai. The Hyundai is just as fast as either the Vette or the jag in rush hour traffic.

My post was in reference to your Corvette comment and not the Jag.
I should have made myself more clear.

It depends on what rush hour traffic you are in.

That is true. I was out in Flagstaff this past week. Rush hour there means 7 cars instead of 3.
