I was looking into the trifecta tune vs hp tuners and a custom tune. Thinking of going hp tuner along with an exhaust, hiflow cat, bigger ic and charge pipes....eventually thinking of upgrading the turbo as well. I just want more explanations on hp tuners and if anyone knows of a person who custom tunes remotely

Contact DDM. Talk to Dave. He has more info that any human should know.
-
Or Contact Lyndon at Westers Garage. Supporting members here get a $200 discount on his race tune. I have the Westers race tune and I would do it all over again. His tunes are WAY better than his website.

More information about what is involved in becoming a supporting member can be found here.

Don't go with Trifecta or you are stuck with one tuner. Go HPTuners and choose which tuner you like.
My advice: if you don't have a strong tuner locally who knows this platform pretty well, only than go with remote tuning, both David from DDM or Lyndon from Westers are great guys.
Local tuner is preferred especially if you are planing to upgrade your turbo.

Thanks for the info. Was wondering exactly what would be needed to purchase to have someone like Dave at ddm remote tune my car. When I wss on the hp tuners site. I saw some things about needing more credits to buy a license and stuff like that

I guess I'll contact Dave Monday and see what he says

HPT comes with 6 credits.
You will need 2 of those to tune your car and will have 4 to spare.
Then it depends on how much a tuner would charge you. Normal is $250-$350

So I finally received my hpt full set up. Getting an old laptop out today to run with it. Anyone want to tell me exactly how to data log. Do I plug the laptop and cable into the car, turn on, and just drive while scanning?

Really kinda confused on how to data log. Lol any help?

Normally you need a config file for our cars, basically where you setup every sensor which you want to be logged. You can find these from your tuner or one from HPT forums.
Plug in the laptop in OBD2 and start your scanner software, use connect button and start when you want to start logging.

Well I contacted Dave at ddm, now I'm waiting back for what I need to data log (cold start, warm idle, hard pull)
Can't wait to get the list so I can start logging

Seems like Dave is an extremely busy man and never got back to me. Guess I'll try to log the best I can...hope I do it right

Acamus-
HPT is a very in depth and wonderful program. BUT- you can destroy your engine with one or two bad clicks if you don't know what you are doing. It is not as simple as someone here just telling you to do A,B,C and then you have a log.
I know this answer sucks, but please educate yourself. YouTube, HPT and google will really help. I wish I could tell you something more helpful.

Find a tunner and work with them to log what they need to know. They will walk you through it. If DDM won't get back to you try Westers.
-
I would never edit anything, especially a tube, myself without knowledge of what I was doing. To be honest it kind of stinks that Dave is so impossible to reach because I heard he's the best tuner around. Maybe ill try one more time today. Think I'll be getting the exhaust (solo mach shorty) installed this week with the hi flow catalytic converter. If I get it tuned once the exhaust is installed. Would I he's a new time for a larger intercooler and charge pipes? Or would I just need it retuned once I put a larger turbo?

Figured a couple pictures would make the thread slightly more interesting

Every physical change can benefit from a new set of logs and tune. It can be an ongoing process.

any recommendations on a good remote tuner? Since dave at ddm doesnt do them anymore

Almost all of the Kappas with Westers have been remotely tunned, give him a call. I think he even had lifetime free updates so when you add whatever down the road he would update the tune for that.
-
Yes Westers had lifetime free upgrades when I did my tune there. Are you aware that as a supporting member here you can get the Westers race tune at the same price as his regular tune?
-
How do I become a supporting member? Because now im basically just a lurker lol

I recommend watching this Engine Tuning 101 series to get an idea of what it takes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u1wzEVwAfJQ
For logging stuff, you should at least have generic PIDs setup, PID (parameter identification) is a parameter that measures or displays a speed or pressure or voltage or on/off or temperature or etc. You are logging PIDs. When you need to see a new parameter, search HPT forums on how to add a PID. It should be something like go into channels, add new parameter, then double click the parameter you want to "activate" it, then you go into the scanner screens to add the newly "activated" PID parameter.
