CJs,

Are you expecting this to be further evolution of the tune for the solstice based on Imaj's results? Or because it is another car and an auto that the tune will be starting over.....

no Vince usually starts w what he did from the last time, adjust it for the mods of the individual car and then try to learn from the datalogs to get the most out of the tune for the customer. the logging really helps him learn each system and they are all different when modified. he has stock HHR SS and Balt SS tunes down. sometimes there is only one tweak needed.

he said the auto tranny may or may not be able to be tuned. he is working on that

I believe that by that statement you mean the transmission it's self and not a Solstice with an automatic transmission?

So he is building a solstice tune as he goes from car to car, not to mention tweaking the the tune for each individual's car (gas used at that time, altitude, mods, etc). I really think this is a great point with trifecta at the moment. The tune is relatively new to the solstice, but Vince will be making quick gains in his understanding and with the tune as more people put it on and datalog it. It sounds like at this time most sol owners going with the Trifecta are doing data logging during install with Vince fine tuning the code. Bring it on everyone. :)

it is all about learning like i am sure it is for all the other tuners. usually once he gets one learned then the rest are alot easier. tranny tunes are the most difficult because of the owners wishes. he earns his money on tranny tunes.

From past experience with the auto GXP on the dyno I expect the dyno sheets to be misleading, I have never seen them show the correct numbers. I saw two cars with basically the same tune one auto and one manual dyno'd and they showed a difference of 40 hp, the auto way lower. Yet the night before they had both been at the track and there time slips were one tenth apart, with the auto being the faster. I just say this so people don't freak if the numbers are not what is expected, there have since been some tricks learned with the GXP auto and maybe we will get some good numbers.

i am hoping that Kenny has some tricks for getting solid #s. i will tell you i had the same issue w my automatic on the dyno as well.
Kenny has been doing this a while so i am sure we can figure out something. they seem to care that they can do the best they can for their customers

I am happy with where my car is at this time. I really have a ton of power now. The low end torque is amazing. So amazing that during my last rack session with all nannie controls off...I came out of a turn giving it a little gas and went into two 360 spins.

I am still going to setup the live streaming. More to come by Thursday.

So the final dyno sheet looks like it shows about 25psi is where the tune for your car does the best as far as peak#'s instead of 26psi correct?

So it appears the auto is affecting the hp reading on the dyno?

So how much of an increase were the #'s over the baseline runs?

Watched most of it live in the background yesterday....

Post by: U4EA on October 03, 2009, 09:15:51 AM
Baseline #'s with GMPP tune, GMPP CAI, Magnaflow exhaust:
213.4(HP) @ 7300 RPM 185.5(Torque) @ 6000 RPM A/F 13.0 A/I 17.2 psi
243.8(HP) @ 4600 RPM 318.7(Torque) @ 3950 RPM A/F 12.1 A/I 24.6 psi
Final #'s
The auto is hard to dyno as it wants to drop back to 3rd at WOT. The sweet spot to prevent this was approx. 3500 RPM @ 85-90 MPH in 4th. Attempted this in Drive and in "I" but was more predictable in 4th at this RPM and speed.
Did have higher #s but also knock and too lean.
This seems to be a good spot for now.

Imaj, Thanks for streaming this as it cool to see this again after the fact.

An index for those who don't want to watch the down time waiting for datalog transfers, tune transfers etc.
1st video: 1st 4 min. are baseline runs for Vince and trying to get the car to stay in 4th gear.
               The rest is down time.
2nd video: 1st 29 min. are down time @ 29 min. 1st attempt on 1st tune, 32 min. 2nd attempt
1st tune, 35 min. 3rd attempt 1st tune, 51 min. 2nd tune, rest down time.

And WAY lower in the power band.

A dyno showing 213hp as base GMPP and 243hp after the tune for me is great difference  . I presume those are wheel horses and not corrected numbers at flywheel.  :bdh:

I don't understand that dyno plot at all  , why are pink spots there ?

Those are really high rpm #s in the stock measurement. Accurate?

The huge torque difference is weird too. ???

That's kind of why I would like to see a standard way we need to have the dyno pulls done so we can have accurate data to build upon so we can make it as equal as can be.
Kinda like my other vehicle has a 4 speed auto with OD and I have to tell the dyno operator to turn off OD and run it in Drive up to about 3100 RPM and then go WOT so it stays in 3rd the drive gear and will run in that gear till 5900 RPM.  Anything lower than 3100 RPM and it will down shift to 2nd gear and throw off the #'s and the graph.

Sorry if this is a newbie quesiton, but what would a dyno run look like if you just punched it in drive and let it shift thru all the gears and run out to top speed (or close)?  Wouldn't that tell peak HP, peak TQ? and give real world numbers similar to SOTP test?

it was hard for him to get solid numbers because it kept down shifting
he did a great job and he did the best he could.
i am sure if we could lock it in 4th around 2500 and full throttle we would have better numbers
it was fun

Just ?'s
So is there a way to lock it in 4th so it doesn't downshift ?
Or is there a better gear to pick like "I" that will allow you to lock it in 4th a little better?
Just trying to understand better so if I decide next year to do a dyno pull I can have as much info as possible for the operator and myself.
