Flash 2 Pass
« on: February 12, 2009, 07:57:26 PM »
installed this on Tue. and could not make it work. :gaah: Called company and talked to Chris tried reset a couple times. Unit would work once and then not the next time. He ask what kind of door opener when I told him Genie he said some of them do not have enough power at push button to power receiver. I need a power supply for push button they sell them. Told him that was great but would be real nice if they said  in there ad that you might need this and for what type of openers. He was nice enough to send me a power supply for free. Hooked it up and it worked great. Might have to get another one for wife's car.

I agree.  What the heck is it?  The only flash to pass I know of is what I make the wife do to get by when I'm blocking the doorway .

It is a garage door opener that you hook up to your headlight under the hood, it only uses the light wiring as a power source, the light has nothing to do with opening the door. You install a new button for opening the door in the house (this is the RF reciever), then when you pull up you flash your lights and the garage door opens. It works great! It is still an RF tansmitter it is just mounted under the hood where no one can see it or steal it. I had some issues and had to call Chris as well, it was due to where I had mounted the tranmitter under the hood, it kept getting soaked when it rained, Chris still replaced it for free. I mounted it differently and have not had an issue since.

Ah,  that's cool.  Think I may need to add that to my wish list.  Right now I just have it tucked in the pocket on the drivers seat front.

Thanks

I have the Genie Intellicode system and I used the Chemist Garage door opener mod.  about $10 in material and 1hr in time.  Requires your remote control to be a 12v battery style.

Took me whopping 10 minutes to install the Flash 2 Pass, biggest reason I did it is it works on my bike as well and the transmitter's waterproof and is inside the headlight housing. I have ruined about 4 different garage door openers on the bike getting them wet and I don't have to even take my hands off the handle bars to use it. I really like it. works well for me.

Great idea for bikes, since it is hard to mod the handle bars to add a momentary switch...

Goat, isn't it past your bed time?

It's the little black box to the left of the headlight.

I also have the Flash 2 Pass and hate it.  It never works right, I have to hit it like 4-5 times to get it to work.  I called the company and they sent me two new black boxes and they were the same way.  So, I did what DeepBlueGXP did and wired in keychain remotes to all my cars and bikes.

It wasn't the switch it was the waterproof, they kept getting water in them when I got caught in the rain, they would get wet and stay wet.

I had problems with the flash 2 pass until I moved the transmitter 6 inches it works first time 90% of the time now.

I installed the F2P last summer, and love it.  No more fishing around for the remote in the glove box.  I tend to leave the top down when parked at malls and restaurants, and was worried about the remote sprouting legs and walking away.  I've had no issues with rain, and I got caught in a duzy of a storm last fall for about 80kms of rain and huge winds.  I really like this little unit, and installed in like 10 minutes.

Harley Davidson has a unit for motorcycles. You wire it into the high beams and just flick them on mometarily and it activates the transmitter. If you have a fairing bike it is easy to hide the transmitter. It would work the same on non HD bikes. I have been holdiing off on the F2P on the GXP, because I do not want to add a third receiver in the mix. I wish someone offered an aftermarket unit that learns the code from the mother receiver. That is how the built in transmitter in my wife's PU works, and could probablly be produced by a vendor.....

This is the same as the HD unit only cheaper, the receiver in the house just replaces the wall switch you have now, all your old receivers still work like they always did. The F2P unit direct connects to the garage door opener then you use there system to activate it by flashing the lights, you could hook it to any power source, the horn if you wanted, you just need two momentary 12V signals = pressing the button on on the wall inside the garage, it bypasses all the intellicode and other stuff with it's own frequency agile system.

I did my sky with the F2P this past fall and installed it in the right headlight housing - no issues with water there.  I also left my existing wall mounted garage door button and just wired the received up on top of my garage door opener.  I LOVE the F2P - it works great - 1st time every time - no batteries to replace, can't be seen under the hood, easy to use and doesn't clutter up the car!

Mine sucked until I moved the car unit about 6 inches, if you have problems they reccomend an external power supply for the inside unit, mine works 90% of the time first try and the inside unit is behind a very large tool box.

I've been thinking about buying one of these also. Now I just have to get the wife to build the garage first.

Gryf - if your a good modder - you'll hook your opener to your fridge so you can flash to beer...
