Author Topic: Which Sumitomo's would be best for me? (Read 5193 times)

Okay Boys, need some input

I was hoping to wait until winter to buy tires but I walked out today and my car has a flat tire, it sat for 6 days after running the twisties in the High Country so it looks like a slow leak.
I prefer to replace than fix a flat tire. So my question is which Sumitomo is best for my car? I want better grip in the rain for sure, I want it to have great performance running the twisities.
Plus if I change to just the one (replace the flat) and put the other on in another few weeks (when I have more cash) will it change the handling of the car much?
My other cars I would never worry about this but because we run super twisty roads I just want to make sure I buy the right tire. Then I will get the rear two later in October.

I have had the HTR Z II tires for a while and they have never given me an issue. They have great traction on dry, never a problem on wet, great in twisties, and as long as you drive slow, they were ok in light snow. They are not meant for snow though.

I was just on the phone with Tire Kingdom and he asked me why I wanted the Sumitomo tires, I told him and he suggested the Eagle GT2 tire. Has anyone any input on those?

Spiky: the " as long as you drive slow" part worries me.....I don't drive slow

That comment was meant for the snow...i don't drive slow either...but I never drive aggressive in snow.

...I use to go out first snow and find a big parking lot and do donuts in the snow until there was no snow left to have fun on!!!! Ah

miss the good snow sometimes.

Also looking at the Yokohama Advan Neova ADO8, just a little more $$ but suppose to be better in the wet.

I would advise against changing the one flat tire and then purchasing the others later. Your better off waiting until you can get all 4.

Just throw in some flat tire foam sealer for a temp fix until you can get all four new tires at one time. I normally would not recommend the tire foam but it would be safer then just replacing one tire.

The problem is we have Nellie's memorial this weekend in Kentucky...I dont want to fix a flat that might get worse or blow out all together and then we are stuck on the side of the road. I would have to park it for months before I could buy all 4 tires. To top it all off my hubby hit a huge dog on the interstate last night, 75 miles from home....his car is now tore up.....sometimes it doesnt pay to get out of bed Frank.

You can drive indefinitely on a tire filled with the tire foam especially if the leak was as small as you stated. I drove my SUV on a tire that had a 1/4' spike in it for over two years without any loss of inflation.

The problem with placing one or two tires on a car with different tread patterns is it can make the handling squirrely and unsafe. The choice of course is up to you.

Another thought, I can not remember if your car is a NA or turbo but if it is an NA I have 4 mounted tires and chrome rims from an NA that I am not using and I would be willing to let you use them until you get your new tires, no charge of course since you are one of my favorite forum members.

If you want to borrow them let me know, If your at your SC location, we are not that far from each other.

I have the the HTR ZIII's, and love them. Great dry traction, and I can drive normally in the rain, by that I mean, I can accellarate and not worry about the road being wet. with the RSA's I had to drive, like the roads were covered in ice when it rained.

Thank you, I was wondering what you had........I can get them here for $174..........I will never forget picking up my car in Canada (never even sat in a Sky) and had to drive it back to South Carolina....car did okay in the snow up there (I hit the first snow of the season!!! of course!) as I travelled down I-75 it turned to freezing rain and then full tilt rain in Kentucky....cant tell you how many times it fish tailed the rest of the way home.....so needless to say I try and not drive in the wet much.......

Your Tire guy makes more money on the Goodyear and most likely stocks them, funny thing is Sumitomo and Goodyear are partners, Sumitomo also makes Falkens they are a REALLY big company. Goodyear and Sumitomo also own Dunlop.

Yeah my Sommi's have exactly the same tread pattern as U-238's Flakens, and yet his are all season and mine aren't........
