Mercury switch for your DDM or other hood lights.
« on: June 21, 2010, 12:59:48 PM »
I took the DDM Works hood light and wired in a mercury tilt switch so it turns on when you lift the hood.

The ones I used are from Amazon or Part Express
http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=060-275

I ran a + from the fuse box terminal to the mercury switch to the light to ground.  I placed it somewhere on the hood (not tellin so you can't have it.  haha)  actually I installed it under the liner on the right side.

Works great!!!

What? No Photos???  No video of the switch in action?

Unacceptable post.  :)

[From Rogues thread...] this is my version -- a modified junkyard trunk light switch, mounted using a headlight bolt with supply wires run through headlight harness sleeving:

What was the donor car (year, make, model) for the mercury switch?  Looks like it was meant for the Kappa hood.  Thanks!

It was a Corsica, not sure of year, but mid-late 80's.  It was actually a combined bulb holder & switch so I had to mod it a bit... remove rivet, remove bulb contacts, solder wires, silicone sealant & reassemble with a small bolt in place of the rivet.  I also had to flatten the 'arms' level on the end of the bracket.

So, in the end, it was made for the kappa :)

Here's a close up, showing the bolt where the rivet used to be, and you can see at the left where bulb used to sit (now sealed with silicone):
