Gased up and then car sputters
« on: August 12, 2010, 06:42:57 PM »
I've got 50K miles on my 2008 GXP. Never had an issue. 75% of my driving is hwy and the other 25% is city. Today I gased up a the same Texaco station I go to weekly. I filled up and immediately had the car lose power. I got into second gear and had no power. Then is seemed to restore. Later down the road, at 75 mph, the car sputtered, almost stalled and then it went away. This happened twice and then nothing. I"ve never had bad gas in my car before, but the sudden lose of power was enough the feel like the car turned off. It was extremly humid out and I don't know if that had anything to do with sensors etc. Anything I can check? :idk:

if you had no power as you say, it probably went into limp mode and had the message reduced engine power displayed. so it probabloy has kept at least one code.
when i had that, i knew nothing about the car, went to the dealership and they replaced my spark plugs.
bad gas they said....and the spark plugs were all black...

imo, it would help you to scan the car for codes. this would drive you to a safer conclusion

On Tuesday I started getting a sputter and ticking sound  when I was leaving work. raised the hood and got louder. I checked the Oil and there was none on the stick.got a 5 qt can and put little over 3 in. After that I gassed up and it started running rough. This morning I got an Engine lite . Have to get my  scanner N see whats going on . No signs of leaking under car BUT fellow worker said when passing him he saw blue smoke comming b out behind car. Just had the Oil changed about a Month ago .

BSS,

as DBG is suggesting, many have issues with topping off.  also leaving cap loose.

Bobby,

How the heck did you have 0 oil?  You need to drive the PT for a while until you get that figured out.  How many miles since your oil change?

Two issues here.  could we split?

Loose gas cap pops a CEL right now so that is probably not the problem

Could be bad gas or you might have stirred up the tank.  How low was it and did you fill it as fast as you could or slowly?

Is it still doing the same thing?

What Joe said - did you stop on the first click or keep filling?

Bobby 3 qts low is bad very bad - how many miles since the oil change?  Check everywhere for a leak.

If the code didn't set. You my have a pending code. That a code that's saved, but did set a engine light because the problem you had didn't go on long enough time to set the code.

A little history on my 07 GXP,

My OCI is 15k, oil filter every 50% of oil life, Check oil once a week & doesn't use a drop in 15k.  I exchange my OEM gas cap for A\M Locking gas cap with no problems. 80% of the time when I fill-up, I'm on E & when the pumb clicks off. I always round up to the next dollar.  Never had a problem in over 52k miles.

See if you have a pending code. That my help put you on the right path. Just a thought, did you drive hard after fill-up. To get what's left of you motor moving around. That mite of drop your oil pressure which should make your ECU to drop power output. Did your oil light come on before you lost power?

Make sure they check the intercooler and all the ductwork leading to/from it for leaks as well.

I had a P0101 code thrown, after much dealer craziness it ended up being the IC.

So if BSS's IC isn't, then clean the MAF and clear the codes.

BSS,

so many issues with the P0101 code.  Have you continued to have problems with the car or now that new gas is in it is better?
Perhaps your car was just severly dehydrated and it needed a cool shower and lots of fluids?

Just thought I'd check.
