Where To Mount XM Antenna
« on: January 09, 2014, 04:15:22 PM »
So I have installed an aftermarket radio with Xm and was wondering where the best place to mount the XM antenna. Right now I have it mounted on my windshield which looks very tacky. Any help is much appreciated.

Would the middle of the convertible top be less tacky?

I think the factory location was middle of the aft trunk/bumper area.

My factory one is on the truck like everyone else. I was trying to get if off the windshield but that might be my other option

Can you mount it behind the rear bumper cover over the rear bumper structure/bar ?

How about on the dash close to the windshield? You should be able to tuck the cable so that it is out of sight and the antenna should work just fine since it will still have a clear view to the sky. On other vehicles that I have mounted XM radios in, I usually installed the antenna on the deck behind the rear seat but we have no rear seat or deck so the dash should work fine. The XM antennas are pretty small so it could actually look like it belongs there.

When I installed my gps, I installed that antenna on top of the cubby in the waterfall panel behind the seats. You have to get the back panel out to get there but it works awesome, is a satellite signal a satellite signal?

I was thinking of installing it under where the visor mounts on the windshield surround. I wonder how the signal will be

I saw ur post deep and tried that spot and I had little to no signal so I put in the corner of the dash, you can barely see it

Why not just buy an adapter "pigtail" and connect it to the existing XM antenna? When I had Sirius I contemplated removing the OEM XM antenna and mounting the flat, magnetic, disc shaped Sirius antenna in its place, but I never got around to it.

You can adapt it to use the factory xm antenna on the trunk.

I just bought this extension to,use the factory antenna and it works fine but you might want to get the 15ft instead of the 10ft.
