Unless the engine temperature sensor comes as part of an OEM system which adds to the performance of the vehicle I don't see the need for having one. The coolant temp in DIC provides enough information for me to determine whether or not the engine is overheating. I see why people want aftermarket boost, EGT, and battery gauges, but not an engine temp.

Yep, should be in the dash information center menu. But if you want to keep an eye on the temp it has to left in the temp display mode all the time, so I can see why some may want a separate gauge. DDM makes a two pod windshield pillar.

Another option is to get a Dash hawk or Ultra Gauge and plug it into the OBD port. Set it to the info you want to monitor and mount the display someplace you can see.

As others have said, your engine temp should be in the DIC. You can see what other things you can monitor via the DIC in the owners manual starting on page 146.

Not all Solstices had a Driver Information Center. It was optional as part of the Convenience Package, which included Cruise Control, Driver Information Center and Integrated Fog Lamps. It also included a steering wheel with the buttons to control the Cruise and DIC functions.

It was a $465 option on my 2006 1st 1K.

If your steering wheel does not have any buttons on the left hand side, you don't have a Driver Information Center.

I stand corrected then. I was under the impression that all cars had the DIC. An aftermarket gauge then would be your only option.

I have a DashHawk in my solstice, and an UltraGauge in my frontier. DashHawk both do basically the same thing. I believe the Dash is easier to set up and the refresh rate is better. Either one will do the job.

I believe that the DIC was standard on the GXP/Red Line.

Refresh rate for the UltraGauge has been raised in later versions of the firmware. You can even send yours back and have it updated (they turned mine around in about a week door to door).

Nope. (And I have taken mine apart to see if I could change the LED backlights themselves - answer was not without destroying the LCD screen

That would definitely work, the backlight LEDs are white. The only trouble is the screen has a GREAT anti-glare coating (like that on camera lenses) and a filter on top, would ruin that easy bright sun visibility.

I put one of these in the Sky this past weekend and am more than satisfied with it. I like having engine temp, boost pressure and intake air temp plus a couple other variables visible at all times and this fit the bill perfectly.
