Body filler came in yesterday so I was able to work on the enclosure today. Again I mixed a little too much the first time and it hardened before I could spread it all on. I only had about 1 - 2 minutes of working time after I had it thoroughly mixed before the filler started to harden to the point it was "unworkable" (cakey/ clumpy). So, I ended up only mixing approximately 2 - 3 tablespoons at a time to minimize waste. I used about a quart of filler altogether. After I had the whole enclosure covered with filler, I began sanding. I sanded for what seemed like an eternity. A power sander and 80 grit paper is a must to expedite this process. I couldn't imagine how long it would have taken if I tried to do it by hand.

Not for now. Maybe later.

Getting ever so close to finishing. Sprayed 2 coats of filler primer and hand sanded with 120 grit to smooth out. Then, sprayed 4 coats of olympic white.

Looks a little lumpy on the top (driver side) there but otherwise pretty good, especially for a first attempt.

I meant to close this thread out a while back. The project was completed and looks good considering it was my first attempt at fiberglass. I may take it out in the future to make it a more polished look. I can see imperfections I'm not happy with. I also installed a new headunit (Pioneer AVH-P1400DVD), mounted my amp differently (vertically instead of horizontally), replaced my RCA cables with a shielded competition brand, and added sound dampening behind the rear plastic wall. The sound is so much better! I can turn it up and it doesn't blow out my eardrums as some others feared it might. I'd like to thank Jim for helping me out with additional resin so I could finish this project. I've taken it to cars and coffee and a few other places and have gotten good reviews about it. So, I'm happy with it overall.

Looks good - especially for your 1st glass job. I recently installed a new Kenwood DDX771 head unit with a backup camera, Infiniti door speakers and a small Kicker amp to drive the factory sub and can't believe the difference in the sound quality. I can crank it plenty loud now with no distortion and all of my steering wheel controls and factory Bluetooth still work.

The road to success is always under construction.

It DOES look good. Years ago I tried to use some fiberglass to do some repairs on an old car I was driving. Without out going into the gory details, lets just say it didn't look nearly as good as that does. Nicely done.
Just trying to do my part...
