My Direzza Z1s are ready to be replaced, but I'm having trouble finding suitable replacements. The Direzza ZII is no longer made in a size that fits the stock wheels, and the Potenza RE-11A isn't the right size either. I wouldn't mind going to a wider tires (e.g., 265-40-18), but I'm just not finding anything.

Any thoughts?

What about the RE-11's? TR has them and a couple Yokohama ADVAN Neova's in the extreme performance summer category for oem size.

The RE-11A is available in 245/40/18. A few people here have run that tire size.

As I read it, the RE-11A has a better, newer rubber compound than the RE-11. I need to win, man!!

I suppose my alternative is to drive the current tires through the end of the summer, then hope something new comes out for next year.

I have done just as well or better autocrossing with my Michelin Pilot Super Sports than folks with the Star Specs. And they come in the right size. They are not cheap though.

245/40-18 is the size you want. Lots of options- Rivals, Hankook RS-3s, ZII Dunlops, RE-11As, etc.

Yeah, that's actually what I've been thinking. Thanks. The G-force Rivals are looking pretty good, and they are on sale at Tirerack at the moment.

It looks like the 245/40-18 size drops the car by about half an inch. When I installed my aftermarket coilovers, the car dropped more than I expected, so clearance is kind of an issue. Maybe I can get them to raise the coilovers when they install the tires. Does anyone know if that can be done with the car on the rack, or do the springs need to be compressed first?

Probably can be done w/ the car on the rack. Depends on what coilovers you have. You'll also need to get the alignment checked/adjusted if you have them change the ride height on the springs...

Ride height adjustment can be performed on the car once the suspension is unloaded. Wheels may need to be removed to allow better access. Alignment would be needed after a ride height adjustment.

Ideally, the car should corner-scaled before alignment. Place a simulated driver weight during corner-scaling and alignment.

I find RE-11s are more than satisfactory for autocross usage, and are up to handling significantly more power if you go up to 265s.

I ended up getting the G-force Rivals. I took it to the nearby Sears, where I have friends working in the auto center who love the Sky and my G8. They said it was actually very easy to adjust the ride height on the coilovers, once it was on the rack.

The last time time I took a real driver for a ride along on at the autocross he was certain that although I was doing well there was a lot left for me to learn even on stock tires. That is, there is a lot left in the car I did not know how to use!
