Bob - Thank you. I do not have access to the test equipment necessary for all the diagnostics, however I do have the basic VOM which should help with some of the diagnostics. At this point I believe there may be a chance the issue is related to the camshaft sensors. I have not checked them yet.

Rogue,

I remember reading on another forum (Cobalt forum I think) about this code and the owner eventually fixed it by hardwiring the sensor to the harness. I don't know what the connector looks like so I have no first-hand experience but maybe the connection point is losing contact intermittently.
The road to success is always under construction.

Good input. Thank you. I'll try to check, however the sensor is not that accessible.

After a significant amount of time spent trying to track down the problem I finally relented and took GXPsy to the dealer. I got a call from them late yesterday advising they had to order a new ECM for her. Fortunately, still under the emissions warranty. Glad it's them picking up the tab and not us!

They need the new ECM (wonder how they plan on loading the GMPP program?), then they'll test the sensor connector. I'm sure they'll try to find some way to justify a charge for that. After that it should be all sorted. Let's hope!

However.....I would expect a faulty connector to also be included in the emissions warranty.....

This will be the third ECM in GXPsy. The one from the factory, then two replacements. I don't understand why the recurring problems. I sure hope the third time is charmed.

The dealer has replaced the ECM with a factory fresh new one, programmed it.....and the car won't start. They put the original back in....and the car won't start. I'm sooooo glad this is under warranty. I'd hate to be responsible for those labor charges!

Yeah the bill would be a nasty one!

Hope they figure out what's going on soon.

Key relearn and changing code from automatic to manual transmission should allow it to start.

Now: GXPsy is back home
« Reply #39 on: June 24, 2015, 06:18:53 PM »
Finally got GXPsy back from the dealer. I'll try to make this as simple as possible....when the engine was replaced, the tech apparently did something wrong in the install that caused the original ECM to keep recalibrating itself. After enough driving, there was no more space for recalibration and it started throwing codes. In this case P0335. The problem was traced to the computer and a new ECM was installed. However....the old computer was downloaded to the new one, and the problem continued. The tech and GM technical services ultimately decided to wipe the new computer clean and do a total reprogram. Voila. GXPsy is back home and GM ate a HUGE repair bill since it's still (just barely) covered by factory emissions warranty. Whew.

I'll find out when she gets home from work today. She was grinning from ear to ear when she pulled out of the driveway.

Pat just emailed me from her office. The ride in to work was satisfying. As much or more power than the day she had the GMPP tune originally installed. Time will tell if the recalibrating issue has been resolved, but right now I'll give that question a qualified yes as the answer.

GXPsy has been back home for several days. According to Pat she now runs the best ever. The permagrin is back!

You got that right! Pat's motto has always been "the first one to the speed limit wins." And right now that car of hers is running VERY strong. We don't know what they did when they reloaded everything new into the ECM, but it feels like an updated GMPP. Hmmmm....I wonder if GM ever did an update to the GMPP? If so, that might explain the sudden shot of extra horses.....
