What exactly is a Opel GT Antenna
« on: February 24, 2009, 02:23:10 PM »
Long story short I want a Opel GT shorty antenna.  I go to my local GM dealer and order the PN# for a shorty antenna for a Sky GM PART # 25805645
The item is on back order and probably a week out still.  The parts guys says if you get me a VIN # off the vehicle it comes off of I can get it hear in 3 days.  So what is an opel GT and where could I possibly get a VIN# off one to give to the parts guy so he could get the part in 3 days.  Is he just full of Crap or does he actually know what he's talking about?
Thanks

He's not full of poop, but an Opel GT VIN probably would do you no good stateside. An Opel GT is a Saturn Sky Redline for the European market.

I pulled this from My Modifications link in my signature

Opel GT Radio Antenna GM Part # 25805645

oh you had it on your first post, I didn't realize it was the same # cause you had it listed as a Sky antenna

Should have got it from them at the same time I purchased a NEW ECM for $240 shipped.  Decided to go local since the price was about the same once you figured in shipping.
Thanks

Don't forget the outrageous shipping they tack on .. I was going to order mine thru them but found I could get it cheaper thru my dealer (they discounted it for me).  You should be able to get one from your dealer at the same or less cost than GMPD .. around $25 plus tax.

Yeah it was $23 and change at the dealer vs $24 and change at GM parts.  So thats why I went with local since it was a bit cheaper and was local.  I should have just purchased both from them at once.  Yes there shipping and handling charges are outrageous but still cheap for the ECM $240 vs $320 from the next cheapest place for me anyway.

Who was the member that was able to get the Opel GT antenna?
Where did they get it from?
A dealer in the US? or From somewhere else?
Thanks

what is the actual size of the antenna?  I bought a aftermarket one which is about 5-3/4 inches from the mount.  It looks great but the reception is lousy.  If I stray too far I switch to XM.

It extends about 5 inches above the covertible top.  I don't have any problems with radio stations.

I replaced the "radio control whip antenna" for the Opal GT antenna.

Ordered it from my dealer's parts dept, took about 5 days, can't remember the cost as it was about 1.5 yrs ago.  The reception is better with it than with my "whip antenna"

I got mine from my Chevy dealer. Gave Sara the part #, and she made a quick search nationwide, made a phone call, and 2 days later I had my antenna. I paid list price, for the exceptional service.

Your parts guy doesn't know WHERE or HOW or is unwilling to do a nationwide search. Most don't. My Pontiac parts guy (they are now out of business) couldn't find one. I went directly across the street, and like I said, had it in 2 days.

The parts guys are idiots and have no clue about Customer Service at two different GM dealers in town.
Called 2 weeks after I placed the order to see what was up and they said it was on back order from another warehouse.  I asked when they were going to tell me this since they had my number and they said they would call when it came in.  To which I replied so you werent going to let me know at all until if came in?  They said No. Then I told them they needed to get a clue about Customer Service from the local Ford Dealer.  They could get me a part in 2 days and a Sepcial order part in less than a week and would give me a call to let me know if it was goint to take longer or if it was bouncing around to different warehouse's or what was up.
This same thing happened to me with the plastic intake tube that I had to get fixed because the Dealer I bought it from broke the little nipple on the intake tube.  The Pontiac dealer ordered the part and it took 2 weeks to get it and the kicker is that it took 7 days to get from Mich to KS via FedEx because it got sent to the wrong dealership.  If I woudnt have called a week after I placed the order for that they would have never had a clue to why or where it was.
Maybe we could get a parts department person that works at a GM dealership to be a Supporting Vendor on this site.  Then we could purchase the GM part through them at a discount plus shipping costs.  We did this over at another Forum for Fords and the parts guy is selling us the parts at employee price plus shipping which is actually a really good deal.  Instead of Gm parts direct that adds a huge handling fee ontop of the shipping charge.
