The differential on 07+'s is that much bigger/able to handle more power?
They are all the same as far as strength, but come in 3.73 and 3.91, LSD and no-LSD. The real strength upgrade is to go with the CTS-V diff from my understanding.
The 07+ manual trans carrier moved to a design that uses a proper torque arm that connects the rear diff to the AR5 output snout. My challenge was trying to put a 07+ manual carrier on an 06 car that is setup to run the body mounted rear carrier (the single front mount bolts to the body at the carrier).
I came across the fact that 07+ automatic cars used an adapter to use the torque arm carrier mount (4 bolt locations) as seen in the picture, which allows the carrier to be bolted to the body again. In my desperation for traction I rigged up an 07+ LSD carrier using the 06 mount, but the 07+ LSD was not machined to take the 06 carrier mount. I am now going to try to use this 07+ auto transmission mount on the 07+ LSD, and in theory it should work and eliminate the need to upgrade my transmission to use the torque arm. I have a quafie torsion diff that I have not pulled the trigger on building up, so for now to get the car racing this spring I will run the factory 3.73 LSD with that automatic mount until I get more confident in what gearing I want to run (3.23, 3.42, 3.73).
This is the 07+ automatic trans carrier mount that bolts to the body right there:
