Well you guys are going to hate me, but I was talking to an engine builder friend of mine and he ran a very easy test on it....Basically, if there is more than 2.5% gas in oil the easiest way to tell is to pull the dipstick and put a lighter to it. If it lights up at all then there is definitely too much fuel in your oil, but if not it's fine.
Mine didn't light up at all even after multiple attempts. I think my nose is too sensitive because I smelled the dipsticks of my wife's car and my neighbor's and they both smelled like fuel as well to me. My friend told me that generally it doesn't take much fuel to make the dipstick smell that way, and they almost always smell fuel on oil dipsticks when the vehicles have over 50-60k miles on them. It's just a typical thing.
That said, as a precaution, I'm having my oil changed on Monday to Mobil 1 high mileage. I'm going to drive it for a bit (300 miles or so) then if the smell doesn't return I'm good, but if it does I'm going to have it compression tested.
After speaking with Dave from DDM it all really does make sense to me. Yes I took that PCV off two years ago, and no oil shot out. Since I've owned the car it's had that weird hesitation I've described even when the tune. Dave asked if I upgraded the power level of the car lately, and in fact, with that CEL for the MAP sensor my car pulls very hard now all the way to redline, so I essentially did add a lot of power to it. Once I described that to him he definitely thought it was just because of the added pressure after 5,000 rpms that pushed the oil out the hole (no baffling in the valve cover).
To the fuel in oil issue, that oil shooting out the hole was the first time I had actually smelled my oil, and I think I may have over reacted because I was seeing it shoot out for the first time.
Like I said though, I'm going to have it changed then keep monitoring everything after Monday.
Thank you guys for all of your help! I do appreciate it!
