Need more thump from the Sub
« on: May 18, 2009, 01:53:23 PM »
I really like everything about the Sol and even how clean the sound system is but I really would like more thump from the Sub.  Not the crap so obnoxious that the car vibrates and rattles like cans but a good nice clean hit that you can feel.
What would I need to get this accomplished and Approx how much as far as cost?
Would the stock Amp have to go and be replaced by another amp?
What is the size of our stock Sub and could it just be upgraded?
Thanks

Your stock subwoofer is an 8" Dual Voice Coil setup (2 ohm + 2 ohm)

I replaced my head unit with a Pioneer AVIC D3, the pre-amp out is much higher than the stock radio.  I still have the stock amp and speakers and the system now kicks ass...

I agree. When I heard Joe's system I was surprised that all he had changed was the head unit.

As this has moved to the new audio/nav section figured I would wake it up. I will be trying to put a 10" sub in the factory box at the mod meet. I will say that just doing the sounddeadener on the doors has made a HUGE improvement in the thump in my car. I have been educated. Step one on any stereo upgrade should be quiet the car. You will certainly be pleasantly surprised with the results. Jonymac has the stock stereo with just the sound treatment and it sounds really really good. I have upgraded door speakers and tweeters and the sound is surprising since I did the sound treatment, I get some pretty serious mid bass thump from the doors now.
