I agree, calling it a backbone really wouldn't be the best route to go, but I don't think Joe was doing that with any ill intention...especially since he is not selling it.  He was simply telling us about making his own because he has the necessary machinery to fabricate it.  Very few people have those means, but out of respect for DDMWorks, a tunnel brace is another cool way of putting it.  I actually really like that name...very creative:)  If I am not mistaken, Joe even gave credit to them in his post.

That's for sure.  He even adjusted my Flux Capacitor when I was in....

Well you're already close to being a Delorean with those doors, so a flux capacitor might not be too far off in the future...especially for you guys.

Didn't Dave and the guys do some testing between the 1/4" and the 3/8" and post there was less flex with the thicker one, but the big change was from the factory to the 1/4". Joe if yours is 3/16" you could double it up and get stiffer, for another $41. You know stiffer is always better, now that I think about it they should have called it Viagra instead of a backbone, or tunnel brace.

I've never been one to doubt lil goat, but when he started going on about the soon to be released to the public chassis stiffener I was wavering. I couldn't justify spending that kind of money on a product that I might not even notice the change. So after a day of Sol searching I dusted off the mill in the back room at the shop & knocked one out. Sorry lil goat, I never doubt you again! DDM you guys rock too! Hope to see you at CarlinTx & Kulsol's mod meet.

Cool, I was skeptical also, then after I installed mine, what a difference!  Add a thread on the Tx meet in the events section and link it to the calendar :)

Just found this forum from the main forum. So HI to all here. As a tool & die mold maker, I have access to most anything I want to use, including cnc's. I just prices some aluminum, and as moldmakers, we use 7075-T6 on most cavity applications, and 6060-T6 on other non-critical applications, such as rails and ejector plates. The tensile strength of 1/4" 7075-T6 vs 6061-T6 is 83,000 psi vs 45,000 psi, and the yield strength is 73,000 psi vs 40,000 psi. I guess for the few $$$ extra, I want to make this thing from 7075-T6, and might just do it on a CNC and make several! Got a powder coater around the corner from us, also.

Hey I think that model is handsome.  You do know the definition of model don't you?  It is a small imatation of the real thing.

I posted about the tunnel brace on the BigBoard with a link to here.  It would really be a troll to get some more people to check out this place.

I am glad you both made it.  I guess I am a sneaky lil guy but I think you will love this forum.  Lucy's Daddy, I met you briefly in Ky.  Asked about your boost gauge, I think you have the aerosomething.

Lucy'sDad( aka LD), you have some great equipment.  I know we will come up with some really neat ideas for you to try out.

I've got a piece of 1/2 inch acrylic that would be big enough, but the exhaust might make it soft.

If you drive fast enough the airflow will keep the acrylic cool.   ;)

But the idea here is to keep it STIFF! 7075-T6 is THE stiffest AND lightest material you can use, next to titanium. But then "stiff" and "wood" can be interchangable terms, I guess! LOL!

I have seen the video of the kind of smoke your car makes I fear that the meat would also be kind of rubbery. :drag:
