Yuengling Brewery Tour 6/27/09
« on: May 27, 2009, 06:10:46 AM »
Hi everybody!

Glad to see you all had so much fun at the mod meet. Sorry I wasn't able to attend. :(

I know some of you have seen this on either the Solstice Forum or Sky Forum (or both), however, I wanted to post this up in case any of you have missed this.

Should be a great day(s) with lots of great people! Just yesterday I had to switch the route and times around a little but hopefully some of you will be able to attend.  :)

SkyhighNY,

I've always wanted to go to the Yuengling Brewery so this seems like a perfect trip by combining a trip to the brewery and a nice Solstice/Sky Run.  I'll be there with my wife Barbara by my side (her first Solstice Run).

Sorry Elff :( would have been great to meet you. I will be going a prerun this Saturday with CBGreenawalt if you are interested? Not quite the same as going with 20 other cars I know.

Bigsal - I will add you and your wife Barbara to the list. Make sure to look for updates on Monday after I come back from the pre-run.

Joe - thanks for the assist with the map link! May need another one after I edit it this weekend!

What time are you planning on doing that?
I have a soccer game at 3:30 in Downingtown

If it's early enough, I'm game [Before, my game that is]

The wife and I talked about this tonight.
I'm going to pass on my driving school for that day and just go a different day.
There are plenty of other days I can do that

Soooo, I think this weekend will be a little tight for the pre-run
But.......
Count us in for the Drive and Tour

The tour is great, I have done it a bunch of times.  Plus you get free beer at the end what more could you ask from a great brewery.  Plus it is my favorite beer from the states.  Everyone enjoy.

AMO: I have been informed but failed to mention it to everyone yet that since we are doing a private tour we get 2 free samples at the end, not just the usual 1 !

Elff: Are you sure you don't want to take driving school before you do the run with the rest of us? I'm sure whoever is in front of you would appreciate it!  :drive:

SkyhighNY:  I wounder if they cut back because of the economic times but the last time I was there I had a choice of 3 or 4 different samples from a good size glass.  But hey 2 is still better than none.  Please add pictures, I haven't been on a private tour through there just the usual scheduled tours.  Do you know what extra it includes since it is a private tour?  I would have loved to make it up there but I have other things going on at that time.

I was planning on going to one of the AutoX Evolution driving schools that day, but they have a couple of other dates I can get to instead.
So no worries on the rally, I'm proficient on the street.

AMO: when I called the brewery they said they only give out one free sample with the regular tour but two with the private tour. Definitely worth $1 I think!

Elff: sending you a PM

BigSal: I think I forgot to acknowledge your post, but you and Barbara have been added to the list of attendees!

Shiny, I checked the map link and found you're going to the brewery in NY. Thought all of you were heading to Tampa for the one here. Guess I'll just have to wait until Some of you head this way.  :)

Actually I hadn't looked at the map, or I would have seen that. We do have a Yuengling Brewery here in Tampa. It's only about 5 minutes from my house.

It's true, there are only two. The original in Pottsville, PA and then a second one in Tampa, FL.

Can you believe they only distribute on the East Coast? They should probably branch out a little more!

They make a good beer and I have probably had more then my share, when I'm not drinking my German imports. I didn't realize that they only had the 2 breweries. I think you're right, they need to expand.

Thanks to my Mom, Spag, CBGreenawalt and Ione, for joining me this past weekend for doing a pre-run of the Yuengling event. We just have to finalize a few details before I post everything here. However, I thought I would put out the reminder now of some things that you will DEFINITELY need to bring with you and things you should be aware of during the event.

Yuengling
  • Closed shoes only. NO sandals, flip-flops, or any other shoes with openings (front, back, & sides).
  • The tour has many steps and is not handicapped accessible.

We were there on Saturday and people were wearing flip-flops. They were made to change into loaner shoes. "Don't worry we spray them" they were told. So consider yourself warned!

Caution/Courteous
This will be a leisurely cruise, not a road race. Please be aware that bicyclists and hikers use these roads too. There are a couple of spots where hikers park their cars to the side of the roadway or bicyclists will be taking up part of the road. Please be courteous and use caution!

GPS/MAP
If you have a GPS device bring it! Even if you can't have the route downloaded to it you must have the final destination plugged in just in case you stray off course and get lost. (None of us know this area, and will be useless in assisting you to find your way back on course.)

Three-Way Radio
So far we have about 22 cars. We will try and remain together but have people scattered throughout the group that have the route plugged into their GPS in case we do get split. Regardless, please bring walkies so you can stay in touch at all times. This is important for listening to road warnings, i.e., oncoming traffic, gravel, bicycle, sharp turn.

We are trying to make this run as safe and fun as possible, please help us keep it drama free!

Lunch at Trexler Memorial Park
Rather than sit around a huge table and have lunch, we found a beautiful park overlooking a river where we can all sit and hang out after the run. Feel free to either pack yourself a picnic in your Sol/Sky cooler or stop at one of the local food places and pick yourself up something (I will post the available places in the final update). Also, bring extra bread for the ducks and ducklings, they really like it!

The park does allow pets on leashes and bicycles. Not sure how you would get everything in your car but you are welcome to bring them. The park does NOT allow alcoholic beverages so please leave your Yuenglings in the car!

As soon as we have the okay to use the parking garage and sured up a few more minor items I will be posting the final details!

SkyhighNY,

  What about pre 9:15am?

Well that depend on your commute. For me it would have been:

6:00 am start car and drive to Yuengling   Thank goodness for hotels! :dancing:

I also cut this back, I had two more events I tried to throw in there but once we did the run and we got to the park we figured everyone would want to just chill not keep jumping from place to place every two hours.

I wasn't sure if you were coming that day from L.I. or getting there a day early. I guess I have the answer now.
I'm about 25 minute south of Allentown so I'll start my run that morning.  Cool,  See you at the brewery.

For anyone undecided I will need your decision by Thursday, June 11th as I have to prepay for everyone so I will need a definitive headcount. Since it's only $1 I don't mind splurging on each of you. However, I will collect once you all get there!
