Crap on my ECM Pins & Connector
« on: June 10, 2009, 02:14:54 PM »
So I went to put in my stock ecm so I can get the GMPP kit installed.
I disconnected my ecm and this is what I saw.

On the ECM pins

On the ECM Connector

What do you guys think?
Why did this happen?
Can this be cleaned?
What should/can I do?

I can't see the pictures at work but I can tell you what to use to clean it, all the eco wienies have all but banished contact cleaner for electronics but if you go to a gun store, or maybe a sporting goods store and get spray gun cleaner that is safe for plastics (like Glocks) it works really well, that and a soft tooth brush, be careful.

My advise is to have the dealer fix it under warranty, it does not look good.

yeah i'll probably have it checked out.  Unfortunetly it damage my extra ecm which was running my westers tune.  My stock ecm is perfect so i wonder what they'll say when i roll up with the stock ecm looking perfect and the connector looking like crap lol.

What caused this? Bad seal?

Perhaps an electrical arc via pulling the ECM with the battery connected?

That's a big no no :)  I would never do that :)  Even then im guessing you'd have to pull it out multiple times for it to get that damaged?

Looks like corrosion and burning due to moisture across the terminals. Surprised it was working and no CEL. What was the outcome?

Sorry for bringing up this old post but Deep-GXP did a great job with his pictures. My 07 GXP started going nuts, alarm going off for no reason, radio coming on with the key out, dash was like a Christmas tree, gauges going haywire and finally would not start. After going through all of the normal things, like battery, Bluetooth module on radio, BCM, grounds, and almost every other thing I could think of. I pulled the connectors on the ECM and saw almost the same thing at the same spot. However one of my pins was completely gone. It had completely corroded into flush with the ECM.

I just ordered another ECM from Mallet. I will clean the connector up and hopefully that will solve my issues. However, I had a trifecta tune on my ECM. I assume the new ECM won't accept the tune. Am I just going to have to pay for another tune or is there something I am not considering?
Thanks,

Is your 07 GXP auto or manual?

I have an ECM for an auto with GMPP and Trifecta I need to get rid of. Plug and play for an auto. Do not remember if Trifecta requires matching vin to load.
